I prefer the top photo, it looks more natural to me

I have been a member of UHH since 2014 and have never posted a question before. I have just read through all the postings again and I won't bother ya'll again. Such postings as "As you have rightly pointed out, the OPs method is hopelessly sloppy and lopsided." didn't answer my question. I have 2 cameras and to my eyes it looked like my old camera was taking better pictures than my new one and I shouldn't have spent $1,000 trying to get something better. To me the fact that one camera has better ISO, etc. in auto just makes it a better camera. Thank you to all who were kind in trying to help me.

I certainly hope you didn't let all of us flap-jaws scare you off. An original post that generates more than a couple of pages of contention can be considered a smashing success here. I also hope your Z50 is pleasing you more now. BTW, I've been fiddling with my used one since I got it a few months ago and still have some little quirks that bug me to work out, but mostly I'm starting to really like it. I'm pretty happy with my pics right now and I checked to see where I was... under "photo shooting menu" you'll find "picture control". Shuffle those around to see what you like best (I'm using 'Landscape' and like it fine, but tastes vary). Also under the "photo shooting menu" you'll find image quality and image size. Mine is "JPEG fine" and "Large". Once you're comfortable with your output in JPEG, ask about raw vs JPEG... that oughta be good for about fifty or sixty pages of trash talk. Hope you stick around. Have fun!

So bogus. Definitely an upgrade to your photography. "Well rated" ?!?!? That has little to do with actual use. IQ may be similar, but IQ is rather similar across the whole market, not much of a determining factor for choosing better gear. Are you going to *use* it, or just study ratings ?

D5500 lives in my car, with a 35mm lens and a spare battery. I use it two/three times a week; sometimes I even stop the car. Picture quality is great shooting one handed at traffic stops.
I own about eight different digital cameras; sure a surprise to me that IQ is similar. I guess you mean after people spend their time rebuilding them in Lightroom and Photoshop.

Thank you so much for your message. I used the suggestions, also updated the firmware and I'm much happier with the photos. I will stick around as I have learned so much and really enjoy UHH. However, I will be very careful about asking questions. If I had only posted the photo from my Z50 and asked how I could improve it, I think the results would have been better. Thanks, again ~Lauretta

Get an adapter and try the Tamron lens on the Z50 - thats a better more useful comparison.

I agree. Buy/borrow an FTZ adapter and try the Tamron on the Z50. Also be sure to set the same settings for both cameras - same ISO, shutter speed, white balance, picture control, etc. Shoot in manual mode, not P mode. Then post your results afterwards.

My experience with the Tamron 16-300 is that it works poorly with the FTZ adapter. It kind of tries to focus, you might call it power-assisted manual focus and I don't think the VC works either. It's bigger brother, the 18-400 won't work at all, everything is manual. I'm thinking of the Nikon 18-300, but it's a beast. Nearly half a pound heavier than the Tamron 16-300 and more expensive.
