Red Skelton. Used to be funny fifty years ago. Watched recently, and my 98-year old mother wondered aloud how we used to howl over something so UNfunny

Red Skelton once performed for an audience composed of delegates to the General Assembly of the United Nations and spouse. It was televised and broadcast at a later date. Skelton walked out on stage to a generous applause. He addressed the audience and explained that his was the voice of laughter and he proceeded to perform for almost 50 minutes without saying a word. The audience was exhausted from laughing the entire 50 minutes. Life is terribly sad for the people with whom you watch television. Why bother to watch?
I was hoping for a Red Skelton joke.

In my response, earlier in the responses, I quoted a Red Skeleton Gertrude and Heathcliff exchange.

Every Sunday night like clockwork.
Didn't matter what else was going on.
If you do some searching, you can find CDs of some of his performances.
