We had a great trip thru various places in Japan. My wife Fran had struck up a friendship with a group of Japanese professors when they were in Philadelphia during an exhibit of Japanese National Treasures at the Philadelphia Museum of Art when she was working there. We remained friends with several of those men and on occasion had them stay as guests in our home over the years. One of those, professor Euahara, arranged for some of his former pupils at the University in Tokyo to escort us around that city and set us up with some friends in other locations. It was a tremendous help in finding things and getting around. Twenty-some days later we were back at the airport (we look exhausted in photos!) for our trip home. I will share some shots of other locations later on.
In Kyoto we were fortunate to be there for the annual parade which drew great crowds to see the people in authentic costumes for various times in Japan. Great spectacle although frankly, I couldn't tell what costumes represented particular eras.
The trains in Japan were especially comfortable and speedy. The Shinkansen was (I think) the first Hi-speed route. Certainly the first I ever rode on ...triple digit K/per Hr. at some points in the trip.
Tokyo was overwhelming...so many "Down-towns" with loop public transit lines. Fortunately the signs were often in English as well as Kanji but we still had help from the professors tour assistants.
Hope these shots were of interest..

Very interesting photos. Did you digitize slides, prints or take from negatives?
Dave,
Almost all the submitted photos were originally slides and were scanned into my computer. I admit to some editing with Photoshop.
Thanks for looking and nice comment.

Thanks for the thumbs-up
