Foam Form for RC Truck

I finished the final version of this foam base for my RC truck. When I sprayed the foam into the top half, it expanded way too much. When I used the bottom half of the plastic shell, I put two tool boxes beside it and I wrapped it in cardboard to keep it from moving outward. I also sprayed the inside of the shell so the foam wouldn't show. As you can see, the paint didn't get everywhere.

I put the truck inside, but I didn't include the remote control. As a result, that area expanded so much that the remote will not fit into its spot unless I dig it out. I don't think I'll do that. The foam form looks ugly, but the truck is a perfect fit. If I want to mess around with the half that expanded too much, I could probably put that on top of the truck, but that isn't necessary.

When I applied the foam this time, I put in a small amount at a time so it would be sure to get to the bottom of the form. That worked much better than shooting it all in at once. I was worried about the foam hardening in the spray tube between applications, though.

The next step is to stick a GoPro mount on the hood of the truck. I probably should have done that before the molding process, but it's very thin.

Now that I know this foam base works, I'll probably use it more often, possibly spraying it into a plastic bag and then pushing the item into it while it's soft. I'll experiment.

Obviously, this whole project was unnecessary, as I could have just put a piece of foam or a small pillow in the bottom of the box, but that wouldn't have been much fun.

I think you need to remove the spare tire and put a flat bed on it.

Gees Jer, I hope your RC truck still performs okay after all that effort preforming the foam. Wait,, did I form that sentence that right?

That would have been a much better design. I don't expect to need a spare tire, especially driving around on floors. There's no air in the tires, anyway. I plan to mount the camera on the hood, so the truck doesn't show up in videos.

Maybe you should mount the GoPro on the roof and include a little bit of the hood in the lower picture frame to give it perspective?

I thought of that. I could put mounts in both places. I'll attach them with tape and see how the videos look. I think I'll limit the truck to GoPro. A camcorder might be too heavy, and it would require a different mount. Of course, I could use a regular Manfrotto mount for the GoPro and the camcorder. So many possibilities!
