I find it interesting that any time there isn’t enough gas to go around, oil companies make record profits. Wouldn’t you think that if lack of supply is truly the problem, their income would be down because they have less product to sell?

This has happened repeatedly over the years. They claim that they need those profits to go find more oil, but invariably the next shortage is just around the corner. Considering they can make more money selling less product, surely they wouldn’t be manufacturing the shortage would they?

In my area, “profits are up” is a possibility, but not due to greed. In my area, oil companies are simply not expanding operations due to fact that doing so in today’s hyper-inflation market will cost more than double what it would have in 2020. Combined with an administration hostile to the entire industry, you have a perfect storm keeping any plans of expansion on hold.

Funny, I find it interesting that in 2017 - 2020 the oil companies also made Record Profits but the cost of fuel was around $2.00, I wonder what changed?

But there is no limited supply in the USA, at least not in the parts of the country where I've been buying gasoline for the past few months. No lines, no rationing, no problem at all buying gasoline, no shortage, just corporate greed.

No shortage of gasoline but a definite shortage of crude oil and refinery capacity.

Ok, gasoline is made from crude oil in refineries. If there is no gasoline shortage, then there is obviously no crude oil shortage, and they had to turn that crude oil into gasoline somewhere. The oil companies see the writing on the wall. Hybrid and Electric Vehicle are more popular now than ever, and EV's are definitely the future, and for a lot of people that future is now. The oil companies are simply going for as much profit as they can for as long as they can, and don't give a damn about the consequences.
