Thanks Rab.
Maybe I wasn't very clear. Not looking for group or coffee clutch or Meetup group. Just another one or 2 locals that I can go out shooting with. Suggested meeting over coffee to plan trips and share interests to choose adventure.
Seems like every day this site is becoming one of a bunch of GOM with many inappropriate comments, like the ones that reply to someone's quest for information or experience with comments such as "I've never used that product, never seen one, but ........."

With gas so high, would be nice to share cost, it's rattlesnake season, I'm getting old and would be nice to have someone along for cost and safety reasons. Esp if we're out in the middle of nowhere..

Some of the suggestions were well received, like looking up the storm chasers.

It's ok. I just look at some of the responses, shake my head and move on to the next.

I just thought of something. You are about to enter monsoon season. There are photogs who specialize in capturing those dramatic scenes. I know one from California who leads trips there. I assume there are a bunch in Phoenix/Scottsdale area. I strongly suggest you link up with one of them for an incredible photo journey.

I also know about your wild horse on the Salt River. There are tours that try to capture them hanging out in the water. Another very cool photo op.

We had a condo on Scottsdale a few years ago. I love the desert and can easily find photo ops around there. There has to be really good groups as well to go with.

I moved to Phoenix 20+ years ago and joined our local camera club in Sun Lakes. Best thing ever. All liked-minded helpful photographers sharing a common love of the hobby. We have classes, competitions, large and small group local and area field trips that are great social learning opportunities. We have experienced photographers that know the area and the hidden gems and are happy to share. Our club is one of about 17 local camera clubs in the greater Phoenix area, all members of ACCC, the Arizona Camera Club Council. Check their website for a club near you. Welcome to the Valley. Ignore the naysayers. If you don't like large groups, grab a camera club member, or two, and go shooting. There are many like you, looking for a partner. In these parts, I don't recommend going anywhere alone. A simple mistake or minor accident can be fatal.

I probably couldn't meet up, but I can mention some interesting places to go for photography. Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix, or the Zoo for some wildlife. Boyce Thompson Arboretum in Superior. Head out past Tortilla Flat to the current end of the road for very interesting rocks. Or just stop along the road and shoot (not literally) some saguaros.
Also, wait for February and March for the wildflowers. April and the Palo Verde trees are in bloom, they look like explosions of yellow. Late May early June the saguaros bloom. Pure white, waxy flowers don't last long, but are a site to see. Good luck!

Opinions on the benefit of meet ups and groups was not the question posed by the Op. So your response was not on point. The other thing is that, for some, photography is also a social thing. Covid made us all shut ins of many of us.

Finally I disagree with your notion that good photographs cannot be made in groups. In my club we have many accomplished and published photographers who lead trips. The work that comes out of those events are vastly superior to most of what I see on this forum. Their air show photos and Death Valley photos are excellent.

Like you I don’t relish going in groups simply because i need to take photographs of things that I am experiencing or are meaningful to me. If you were to look at my pics on my site you’d see mostly travel related shots that I experienced. Hopefully unique.

But why dampen someone’s desire to spend time with others doing photography?
