Last week, I got an adapter for my Sony camcorder. In their wisdom, Sony decided to use their own size hot shoe (cold shoe), so my external mic can't be mounted on it. I ordered a $10 adapter from Amazon. It does not fit. When I clicked on "Return," I was surprised to see that this item is not returnable. Some sellers on Amazon do not allow returns. If there is anything about no returns on the product page, it's not obvious. It does say that it's eligible for refund or replacement. Apparently not.

If you hit where it’s says refundable it will tell basically only if it is damaged.
I went to the page and moused over the blue letters return policy.
It stated:
"This item is non-returnable, but if the item arrives damaged or defective, you may request a refund or replacement.
Read full return policy"
Not "obvious", but there.

Thanks for that. Since it doesn't work, it's defective. I'll have Amazon call me. This doesn't inspire confidence for finding another adapter. I think Velcro will work.
Does not fit is a "defective" failure.

Correct. It doesn't work.
Hit it with a hammer...send it back.

Not necessary. It doesn't work as delivered.
By this reasoning, then perhaps the camera is defective.

"Reasoning" doesn't apply to that statement.
I have a Sony A77 and a Sony A77ii. The A77 takes the cold shoe so I bought the adaptor for the hot shoe flash I have. Didn't work. Now the kicker the A77ii has a standard hot shoe. Now if I plan on using a flash I have to be sure to grab the right one.
"Since it doesn't work, it's defective." does NOT mean that "logically" item is by definition defective.
For instance if auto parts supplier sent you a 6 hole stud bolt pattern rim for your 5 stud bolt pattern wheel hub does not mean that the 6 stud bolt pattern rim is by definition defective. It only means that it will not fit your wheel hub.

Jerry, why aren’t you calling Amazon customer service? 1-888-280-4331
If you are Prime or a long time buyer, odds are based on what you’re seeing on the adapter’s product page that they will work with you. Anytime, I’ve felt compelled to call them, I’ve gotten an even shake.

Well, the description did say it was for a Sony camcorder - which it doesn't fit.

If the wheel was advertised as having five holes, and it arrived with six, it would be useless to me. Well, I could buy another car, I guess.
