The Gardner River that caused much damage and destroyed the north entrance road thru Gardner Canyon begins and ends in the park. Its origin is in the northwest end of the park on Joseph Peak (Area of Electric Peak)where it flows southerly down past Sheepeater Cliff, then north up to Mammoth Hot Springs and out into the Yellowstone River in Gardner, Mt.
Soda Butte Creek created much havoc from Cooke City and westerly thru the Lamar Valley where in joins the Lamar River which also flows into the Yellowstone River close to the Tower-Roosevelt area.
