I have a 10-day vacation planned for Sante Fe (anti clockwise trip) finishing up in Alburquerque. I understand the current major fires are in the south-west of the state, but I have seen (fire) maps with outbreaks near both cities. Would appreciate local knowledge on what is actually happening.
I'm in Albuquerque...for Santa Fe (SF), there is a big fire to the northeast (~30 miles) of SF, another to the southwest (~15 miles), and a third (new) to the northwest (don't recall distance or size of this new fire). The first fire listed is the largest in state history. To date, there is very little smoke in the SF area. What around SF do you plan to visit? Many things are closed as a result of the fires...Bandelier for example. Best you check the status of any places you plan to visit.
Many thanks for the prompt response.
Our plans included all the major photographic highlights going in a counterclockwise route East, North and West of Santa Fe and then going down to Alburquerque. This is the second time we have tried to arrange this trip having rescheduled due to COVID closures in 2021. Looks as though I will have to reschedule until Spring 2023 - hopefully third time lucky.
I would suggest you put your trip off till fall. It is extremely dry and windy. And smoky, depending on the direction of the wind. The Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon fire is not completely contained yet.
Many thanks for the prompt response and advice
