Being a bit bored the other day, I decided to rotate my CF card. I ejected the one in the D700. I have several spares cards and not one of them or the one ejected will go back in.

Not keen on throwing away the camera as it is so good..

Any suggestions please....

Hope this helps. The label has to be facing the monitor of the camera. If you put it in backwards you might have damaged a few pins

I have had pieces of cards break off in the card bay. Sometimes you can fish them out or shake them out. I would check that before ditching the camera.

If any of the pins are bent, try taking the long red nozzle tube from a can of spray lubricant (like WD-40) and if not bent too badly, slip the red thing over the pin and carefully bend it back into place. The material the pins are made from bends fairly easily, both out of and back into alignment. If you’re like me, a bright light and magnifying glasses help.

try placing the original card back in, or use a rocket blaster to blow some air in the slot, other than that send to Nikon Repair

Start with you camera's manual and get the correct orientation. Cards are meant to be inserted ONE WAY ONLY! Best of luck!

This sounds like bent CF pins in the camera. Use a flashlight to look at the row of pins at the bottom of the CF slot to see if any are bent. If there are, I'll be glad to repair the camera for you. I'm a repair tech with 30+ years in the business. If interested, please reply by private message.

I'm sure you know they are not reversible. Make sure the card is properly oriented. Often the problem is "foreign matter" blocking the card entry. With the camera OFF, try to see if there is and if you can fish it out with a tweezer.

Look into your card slot and see if you have bent one of the tiny brass pins that made the CF cards a nightmare. If that's the case you may as well take the camera apart enough to straighten it with tweezers or forceps.

That's a great idea. Wish I had thought of it when I had several CF cards in use. Have trashed two or three cheap adapters.

Please take the battery out before fishing around in your camera with tweezers.

If you value your camera, please have it repaired by a qualified professional. It'll cost you less in the long run.

Thanks to all who have responded.

Went to my local camera shop. As suggested, he found that the two longer pins had bent - all I did was eject the card! I also have a 14-35 lens. This has lost the auto focus.

No worries - I know a retired camera tech who can fix both problems.

So, I await their return (and I am miksing them)
