Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 AF-D ED Lens, New Version. LIKE NEW CONDITION. $ 595

This lens has been well-taken care of and has always been carefully handled.  Minimal marks from use are barely visible only on the lens’ front groove, where its hood locks into place, and on the foot of the tripod collar.  It otherwise looks new.  The optional Nikon HB-7 lens hood also shows just minimal signs of use.

The glass is crystal clear, with no scratch, fungus, haze, significant dust, or any other flaws.  Aperture blades are clean and move smoothly.  Autofocus and manual focus, switches, zoom and focus rings all work smoothly.  The rear lens mount is like new.

Made in Japan, this precisely machined, metal-bodied, professional grade telephoto zoom was built to last.  There is no delicate AF-S motor or VR mechanism.

The lens zooms internally, so no air pumps in or out as you zoom.

Its tripod collar fits precisely with no play when loosened.

Even 20 years after its introduction in 1997, this “NEW” version of the 80-200mm f/2.8 AF-D lens was still one of Nikon’s most popular professional lenses.  Although production stopped in 2021, it remains popular because it offers fast autofocus, nearly as fast as the newest professional AF-S zooms, and stellar optical performance at a price that’s a fraction of the cost of its plasticky, successor AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8 zooms.  Stopped down a couple of stops, it is super-sharp edge to edge at every focal length, and when the DSLR body is calibrated to the focal length and working distance, the AF accuracy is superb.

See sample photo at its original size, and then after cropping, post slight color adjustment but without any sharpening done, demonstrating the high degree of resolution of the bird images, even when photographed hand held through a glass window pane from 15 feet away. You’d probably do even better using a monopod.

Included in the purchase price of $595:
Front and rear Nikon lens caps
Lens Instruction sheet
HB-7 bayonet lens hood   (an optional accessory that would cost another $35 if purchased new separately)
Hard tubular case and strap
Original retail box, absent its UPC label which had been mailed in for a rebate when lens was originally purchased.
Fully insured shipping to continental USA

So why am I selling this lens?  I happen to also have the superb Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 VC G2 with image stabilization and convenient multi-point calibration using the Tap-In console.  I like to avoid equipment overlap, so I’m parting with this quality Nikon zoom.

PM me if you’re interested.
