This image demonstrates one reason (among many) to shoot in short bursts vice a single exposure if the capture is important to you.

The lighting on this Great-tailed Grackle was nice and his profile was compelling, so I snapped one shot. Only in post did I discover the bird had his nictitating membrane closed. No processing adjustments were made to this bird's eye.

Now I have a shot suitable for an Alfred Hitchcock movie.
