I Need Special Rubber Bands

My Rode mic (2011) is held in place with a bunch of black rubber bands about half an inch long. Yesterday, I saw that most of them were broken. Unfortunately, there seem to be no replacements available. I'll have to try to rig up something on my own to hold the mic in place. It's the Rode VideoMic, similar to the one below, but the body, controls, and mount are different. I'll have to look into buying a new mount for it.

EDIT: I see that Adorama has a used one identical to mine, but I'm not going to spend $70 for rubber bands.

Good idea! I'll need the kind with the vibration control.

If gaffer's tape doesn't work, try rubber bands used for teeth braces. Also, some veggies come wrapped in short rubber bands.
Good luck.

I'm sure that small rubber bands are easy enough to find. The ones below are small but not small enough. I'll keep looking.

Try googling "orthodontic supply companies". You might have to buy more than you need, but they might send you a sample if you ask nicely. If you know a kid with braces, they might be able to wheedle a small bag from their orthodontist

"O-Rings" come in all sizes and thicknesses. Hardware stores, auto parts stores, home centers, etc have them.

Good idea.

In order to see the price, I have to register and log in.

I suspect the price will be like buying parts for a boat or a plane. It's a "specialized" product, so it will be expensive. I don't want to register for anything else. I'll keep looking, though.

Here we go - good old eBay.

Good idea. br br In order to see the price, I hav... (show quote)

EDIT: They sell only one size at a time, but for $3.99, I get free shipping from China. I'll have to measure the ones on the mic and order that size.

I wonder if these are intended for human beings.

Zip ties can work well as mounts. They are not very elastic however.

Thanks, but I don't have the room to work. I seem to recall having some elastic "string."

If you think the orthodontic type will work go to your local orthodontist office and see if they can give you some. You could also verify size at that time.

Not at all. I looked at dental bands, but they're too small. I need sixteen bands about 3/8" long before being stretched. I ordered 110' of 1/8" elastic cord ($8.55). I'll run that around in one piece.

There are a lot on sale online, but 5/16" seems to be the largest. I need 5/8". The 110' I'm getting should work. I'm surprised that Rode doesn't sell them. Their new mics don't use that kind of mount, though. If a rubber band breaks, you buy a new mic.
