I was out taking pictures of my neighbors yesterday when I thought I stepped on a worm but when I looked closer it was a baby snake. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what kind it is. Even as a baby, though cute, still gave me the willies. :)
Oh, and I live in Kansas City if having the area of the US helps any.

Tough call without seeing the belly and head better. Perhaps a Ring-necked Snake.

Well, I certainly was not going to pick it up and check its belly!! LOL yuck! One of my other friends thought maybe a brown snake?

Brown Snake has the right size and range but the one in my reference book is more patterned than your picture. It might be a baby as you say and, therefore, look nothing like its adult self. I thought everyone picks up a snake to see the belly! Go figure!

Yeah go figure! LOL...the picture makes it look big but it was only about 7-8" in length so definitely a baby thank God!
