True, but some apparently find the subscription plan just too obnoxious to contemplate. They may have been traumatized by renting a dial phone from Bell Atlantic all those years.

And I would think that if one REALLY needs the processing capabilities of Lightroom/Photoshop, the wise policy would be to get the very latest version, where the capabilities must be vastly superior. The only obstacle to overcome would be the subscription model. (I am NOT an Adobe user – I finally settled on ON1 as the best such software, and also easiest to use, with great documentation and technical customer service – though seldom needed.)

If you're bent on proving that a heretofore unregistered copy LR6 cannot be successfully installed and activated today you can query the eBay vendor cited above. He or she apparently had four copies for sale and recently sold three. That vendor will likely have some disgruntled customers if the software can't be used. I'm quite confident you'll be up to the task of proving a negative claim.

And since you repeatedly cite some posts from oldtool2 or oldskool49 or whoever you can provide a link while your at it.

BTW glad you're not still seeing red!

I don't need to prove you wrong. You need to prove yourself right. Just tell us what next software you buy and install successfully. It seems two (2) is all that is needed anymore on UHH as 'proof' and you've got 1 already.

And I have with my personal experience with two analogous Adobe products. Not to mention a video from an experienced Adobe user specifically addressing LR6.

You have nothing contrary but a hearsay report from an indeterminate UHH member, unsupported by any cite or link.

I'm quite confident that there is a way to add an unused LR product key to your Adobe profile to complete the activation. Adobe cannot know if you bought the product some time ago and are only now getting around to the installation.

This video is for a download version, but would be applicable to the disk version as well.

PS My experience is with Windows PCs only, but I have done the same thing recently with Acrobat X (now obsolete) in lieu of Acrobat DC, which is part of the photography subscription bundle.

It seems you're determined to ignore current knowledge as of June 2022? You found a link from 2016 when the standalone LR6 was still being actively sold from both Adobe and their authorized resellers. This is your laughable proof and justification of prompting others to waste their 2022 money on expired, unsupported, and for many Adobe titles, un-installable software?

I also peeled the onion of your Acrobat X success story. Guess that insight didn't register either?

Why don't you take your own challenge, leveraging your understanding of the situation? You've got a 50/50 chance, it works or it doesn't. Right? I'm saying the odds are a lot worse against you, but hey, go for it.

If I wanted LR6 today I would buy an unused copy without hesitation, but since I neither want or need it I'm not going to bother. If you're so hot to prove yourself right you can try it and relate your experience here. But all four copies offered on eBay by the vendor I cited have now sold.

So, you don't know that you don't know what you're talking about. And, you don't want to have it confirmed. No worries.

At least 13 copies of LR6 sold on eBay in May. Plus many Photoshop CS6 copies too. I guess you're certain they're all doomed to have a bad experience.

As I said if I needed it I would. But I've come into the 21 century so am happy with the subscription service. But for those who are not there is a viable alternative (at least for most Windows users), if they have the temerity to ignore your sage advice.

They would do so after being strongly advised they're making a mistake. Any amount of investigation of the relevant details would confirm, focusing on experiences dated 2021 through today. Example: people who own their own physical copies of CS6 can't get it to reinstall. Regulary complained about, here and elsewhere. People buy from Abe's even though I can think of once ever that someone posted a positive experience with that purchase process.

Back-up your deep knowledge with your own actual experience. Report back when available.

Read your own links too ...

Reddit - user moving software they own and have install files from own computer to another. Application to 2022 ebay purchase: ZERO

diyphotography post - dated 2017, while the software was actually still be sold. Application to 2022 ebay purchase: ZERO

Adobe support - dated 2021-22, actual owner of Mac and v6 software. An old Mac where the v6 software could still be installed. Application to 2022 ebay purchase: ZERO, Adobe won't let you install as a new license to your account, even to your old equipment where it might run.

Adobe support - Apr 11, 2022 - issue creative cloud apps. Application to 2022 ebay purchase: just above ZERO, LR6 and CS6, two photography examples from the larger universe of Adobe software, are not these 'creative cloud aps' of this OP.

Look you and I are in basic agreement that all this effort -- productive or not -- is unnecessary. In 2022 everyone who wants to use or upgrade Adobe software should just get on the reasonably priced subscription plan.

As one of our cohort said earlier:

The subscription versions of Adobe apps are far more stable, more capable, and easier to use than the old versions installed from CDs and DVD media. But you will need modern hardware ("modern" — in the computer world — means less than five years old).

I think there's a workaround, you don't, but since this is really like angels on the head of a pin, I'm done with the discussion.
