Greetings from the past. Probably not great as photos, but hope interesting as to content and locations.
I seem to have figured a way to create downloads but the system doesn't seem to work all the time.
The first two are from my first (and only) visit to Vienna. Austria had just received status of free and unoccupied territory. I visited on leave during the days up to New Years day and once the french, British and Americans had left so, indeed, had all the entertainment...holiday parties seem to be in private buildings and (for example) all the prostitutes had gone with the troops it would seem. I did go into a bar and the only customers were ME. The bar owner had worked in the states and spoke perfect English and when someone on the street outside walked past the window, he would grab me and his waitress and push us onto the dance floor!
It was so dreary that I left the next morning and took the train from Vienna all the way up to Copenhagen. That was similarly skimp on tourist activities, so I gave up and went back to the army base before my leave was actually up.
Vancouver trip was very much a pleasure and I have been back several times.
Hope you find the photos of interest. Thanks for looking.

One of my most favorite cities.
Agree. Generally, I really love Canadian cities, but Vancouver and Victoria (then) were my favorites.
Thanks for looking.

As the song goes, "Wien, du Stadt meiner Trรคume" (Vienna, you city of my dreams). Sorry you had such a bum time there. I guess your timing was off... I was fortunate to visit the city a few years ago as part of a Danube cruise. Didn't have much time there and would love to go back.

I am sure that you are correct in your assessment of Vienna today, but remember when I showed up they were just starting a recovery from being divvied up for a long time. Physically the city was pretty much okay, but the effect of the occupation by four other nations had created a cultural setup just beginning to heal.
Thanks for checking out my Photos.
