I mentioned how I used four GoPros to record an event last Saturday. Two recorded, but one of them was blocked by a person. The cameras are different models, and they all work differently. I thought about buy another. The latest, the Hero10, is $500, way too expensive. My newest is the Hero5, so I thought about getting another one from eBay. I found one with a bunch of accessories for $150, which is a lot less than the $400 I paid in 2017. I'll have two identical cameras, so the video will be decent, and the controls are the same. It should arrive within a week.
Never used a GoPro, although i bought them for my adult children after they came out (the cameras, not my children, LOL) and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a picture they took with them. What are the cup and down sides of them?

The upsides for the newer ones: automatic horizon leveling, slo-mo, high-speed, time lapse, stabilization, video, stills, video and stills simultaneously, tough, waterproof. I'm sure there are more.
Cons: expensive for a tiny camera, accessories can be expensive (unless generic), not great in low light situations, controlling everything with only two buttons takes learning and practice, tending to get hot, short battery life. GoPro says that the average video shot is about a minute and a half long, so overheating isn't much of an issue. I ran mine for an hour 32, and it was a bit beyond warm.
Each update adds some features, but they tend to creep along, rather than make huge advancements with each model. The Hero10 is $500, which is kinda high. The very similar Hero9 is $350.
There are many reviews and comparisons on YouTube.
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=gopro+reviewsI like the idea of the GoPro, but I'm not an "action guy," and it is an "action camera."

They say confession is good for the soul.
Ego te absolvo a peccatis tuis in nomine Patris et Filii et Spiritus Sancti. Amen. For your penance sell one piece of gear that you already have.

You remember Latin, too, I see. It's too bad they stopped teaching that. It comes in very handy in figuring out the meaning of words.
I ordered another little camera last night, a SJCAM SJ4000 Air Action Camera (Black) - separate post.

So a recidivist, and with absolution free to offend again!
What? Scandalous advice. If he needs to do penance, have him work weekends for Habitat for Humanity.

The punishment should fit the crime.
I have a GoPro knock off that I use to record some of my motorcycle rides. I saves the video in 20 minutes clips that can be spliced in a video editing app on the computer (if I can figure it out). It does a good job of recording the visual and sound. Image stabilization is very good as is the clarity of the visual. The only drawback is the lens is quite wide angle and there is some distortion at the edges due to that.

I have two knock-offs now, and they are pretty good. The thing is, the old GoPros are also "pretty good," and when you look at the price difference - $400 vs $60 - it's not a hard decision. One problem I have is that the controls are mostly different. They all have the shutter button on top, but then there are the other buttons. Sometimes there is one on the front or the side, or both front and side. Two of them have two additional buttons on the right side. If money was no object, I would buy half a dozen of the same model GoPro, but I'm not making money with these.
Looking on eBay for a recent model can save you money, especially when they include lots of accessories.
