One station on tv has played all day poor quality Japanese made old movies. Right now Godzilla is having a temper tantrum like my 2 year old grandchild and is literally kicking the crap out of some Japanese city, stomping on big buildings and belching fire. And of course there’s the bad guy wanting to beat Godzilla to the punch by taking over the world before the big lizard does.
Advancements in computer generated graphics today have produced spectacular images that look all so real. When we look at Godzilla grappling with Mechagodzilla today, it’s interesting that viewers back then would settle for what is obviously two guys sweating up a storm in rubber suits. And was that a wristwatch on Mechagodzilla’s wrist???

You mean the original 1954 Japanese Godzilla (Gojira) film and American reissue with the "Oxygen Destroyer"? Those first few Godzillas are SciFi classics. I love 'em even if they are cheesy. That first film had a semi-hidden political or moral message. Of course early 1950s SciFi does no compare with the CGI effects of todays Avengers or Jurassic World. Even 1969's 2001: A Space Odyssey was spectacular. And Alien actually nearly made me ill. Compare the original Star Trek TV Series to Picard (the most recent Star Trek related series I have watched). I certainly get your point though.

The "Cheesiness" is part of the fun!! Gojira lives on!!!
I will never visit Japan because it is where all of the monsters live..!
I still watch and enjoy some of the old Ray Harryhausen stop motion movies.
Me too, Yssirk. Accolades to Peter Jsckson for insisting his CGI guys recreate Ray Harryhausen's lost Spider Pit scene in stop action for Jackson's version of King Kong to learn how it was done.

No I think there is one in Russia to, a real one.
I have every Godzilla movie that was made on DVD in both American and Japanese. There is a total of 30 movies which I grew up watching and still watch them to this day. Great special effects in those days. I remember seeing them at the theater Saturday afternoons with my brother when the parents went shopping. Gave us $2.00 for movie ticket, popcorn and candy. Never ate dinner after the movie we ate too much food during the movie.
