Thank you, Kaskazi, so much for hosting. This will be interesting for sure. Because its Memorial Day in the US, here are some war monuments. This one is in the center of Portland, Maine, in the city center known as Monument Square. Lady Liberty and representatives of the service branches are around the base. These, I believe are Civil war.

You're welcome Pat. Thanks for the reminder of Memorial Day. I tend to be confused between Memorial and Veterans' Day. Had to go look it up. We just have Armistice Day - 11.11.18, end of WWI

The three guys in No 3 are very evocative

Soldiers and Sailors Monument in Cleveland to start:

So often the honoured ones are too high up to see, but here I really like the bronzes(?) on the plinth. That one with the gun grabs me - so well modelled, but too often the sculptor is virtually ignored.

Yes, it's good to remember and hopefully to be thankful.

Three more from Washington, D.C. Two fit the Memorial Day sub-theme. One doesn't.

In respect of Memorial Day I thought I would share a few monuments which memorialize where the American experiment started and a remembrance of the brave men and women who sacrificed everything for America's survival. "What so proudly we hailed"

I didn't know where to start with this. There were so many candidates. However, I narrowed it down to a snow sculpture from the 2007 winter carnival in Anchorage, Alaska, and a pair of sculptures outside the Native American Museum in Washington, D.C.

I was hoping someone would post some images from winter-time. But I was thinking ice, not snow, so this was a nice surprise.
