All choices in a kit are done to solve a problem, but they also paint you in a corner and likely create new problems. That is my Deep Thought for the day.

So far I am committed to using the twin flash with two big 'ol diffuser bowls. There is a new design for those in the works, but I'm not sure if they will ever see the light of day. I can stabilize the diffusers somewhat by tying the arms to the central modeling light. Dense foliage is still an issue, but that would be true as well for a big diffuser on a hot-shoe mounted single head flash.
One reason for my commitment to the twin design is in part bc the dang thing wasn't cheap, and I'll be damned if I solve its issues with a cheaper flash while the dual head stays home!
But also what I do in the field involves using various lenses. These on occasion include a wide angle macro, which practically sees around corners, and now a fish-eye lens which does see around corners. I need to be able to switch lenses w/o detaching a lens mounted flash or fuss with a big diffuser that attaches to the lens. And the diffusers must be able to hide away from those wide angle lenses. The dual flash solves multiple problems for me, that is for sure!

Mark, I have the same Venus Laowa dual-head bendy arm flash and each time that I pass the kitchen wares at Walmart, I'm tempted to get a few of the small Tupperware-type bowls with lids where I could put foil lining in them and do something to the lids to provide diffusion.

I've been on the hunt for small soft rubbery, about three inches in diameter, globe diffusers like what goes on a globe lamp of a ceiling fan to go over the flash heads. I've found some that are hard plastic, however, I'm looking for something more like a Gary Fong type of material. A solution would be to have them 3-D printed as a last resort.

My other flash is the Meike twin head flash that I bought because it is wireless and the transmitter operates up to 100-ft away from the flash heads so that provides a lot of flexibility for other applications.

I have a large LED soft light panel that creates near shadowless soft light that I plan on using when I try my hand at macro video sessions. It's a great product, however, way too clumsy to mount on a camera for field maco shots.

Also look in party stores for bowls. Cheap and light, but big enough. Amazon also has an endless supply of 'party bowls'. The Gary Fong diffusers are apparently really good bc you can get a big diffuser effect out of a smaller diffuser. There are cheaper versions, but I don't know how they compare.
Maybe I should do a premature post about the diffusers I'm working on. I think there are some good ideas in them, but there are still issues and I'd like some input.
