Take your camera!!! You will not regret it. On previous trips to Europe and the UK I have taken my D7100 or now the D500 and all the paraphernalia that went with them but on a planned trip to Switzerland I didn't want to lug all that equipment around so I devised a minimalist+ package. The photo shows what goes into a small, 12 inch, Think Tank sling bag with some room to spare. from left to right, tools, rubber bands, lens wipes, set of filters, 2 types of Spider camera holsters, rain cover, battery charger, belt pouch with Sony RX100 vii and remote shutter release, National Geographic belt bag containing, lens pen, flashlight. folding knife/tool, lens cleaning wet dry cloths, small tripod and batteries. There is also a pocket on the outside which contained virtually nothing. Weight, just under 4 lbs. Granted I did already have a $1300.00 pocket camera but I was able to repack loading a D7100 with an old Tamron 28-300 lens and the National Geo bag with it's contents and had a significant amount of room around the lens for other items. Many of the items could be carried in pocket or purse. Obviously the knife would need to be on the checked baggage. Replacing the Sony with the D7100 would add about two and a half pounds.

Voltage is different unless the appliance is multi voltage.

Yes, but anything you might want to take on a trip (camera, tablet, laptop, cell phone, etc) can be charged on 100-240V. So all you need to worry about is the plug. Just don't bring your hair dryer.

I did the same thing. I had a Canon Rebel with the 18/400 Tamron. Never took the lens off the camera once on my river cruise which included stops in Vienna and Prague. Never an issue throughout the 9 day trip.

First, you know you’ll regret not having your DSLR when you see the cell phone photo didn’t come close to what you wanted.

Second, in a trip to Ireland in 2017, I took my D5300 and my Tamron 18-400 and my Nikon 10-20. That taught me that I didn’t need to take the Tamron off the camera. So, in 2018, on another trip to Ireland, that’s what I took. QED.

You are correct. But all chargers I own can be used for voltage 100V to 240V. My laptop brick power supply also can be used with 100-240 V.
USB charged devices do not matter.
You need to check all that you want to use for allowed voltage range, of course.

I am traveling to Prague and Vienna in a couple of weeks with a choir for a week. I recently got a new phone, and I purposely got the new Google Pixel 6 Pro just because of the camera, and thinking that it would be great to not have the hassle of lugging a DSLR around. But now I'm having second thoughts. I'm just afraid I might regret it if I don't take my camera. I have a Nikon D7100, and I would probably just take my Tamron 18-400 lens. Definitely do not want to have extra lenses, etc. I do have a holster type bag that I got just for that lens - but it is still an extra bag to bring. How have others packed for a trip like this? I'm wondering if a laptop type carry-on would work. I could just put the camera and lens in the padded section, and still have room for other carry-on stuff. We're allowed one carry-on and one "personal bag". So this would be my personal bag, and I could put my purse in the other carry-on. I do not want to put the camera in my checked luggage. And the last time I traveled abroad (22 years ago! I had a film camera then...) on at least one leg of the flight they made us check the carry-on bag because there wasn't room for them in the bins.... So thoughts, please!

I traveled to Prague and Vienna in 2019, just before COVID. Just like you, I had my Nikon D7100 with the same lens - Tamron 18-400, and also had my I-phone 12 pro. I did not need to carry anything else and am totally satisfied with the pictures I came back with. I used the Nikon mostly for telephoto type shots (details on church spires, etc) and used my iPhone for most indoor shots, at night, and around people. The iPhone pictures are sharp and crisp. Using the Tampon 18-400, In had to steady myself quite a bit (I did not bring a trip-pod), or brace the camera on some platform and generally did ok, though not always as sharp due to unsteady hands. iPhone is so much more convenient and less obtrusive. I wish you good luck and have fun in those two cities. My wife and I loved that trip, the scenery, the sights, the food, the people, and yes- the beer! 😜😜😜

My carry on is a daypack that carries a ton of valuable stuff (laptop for one) that can later go into my check in bag once I arrive. My camera bag that holds 2 full frame bodies, 3 lenses, batteries, charger…. fits under the seat. If you notice, there are no size restrictions on your “small” personal bag. If it fits under the seat no one cares. I fly all the time, never a problem. If you are flying some cheapo airline that might weigh your carry on wear a BIG coat with lots of pockets. Security is sometimes a hassle if you need to empty them out and load up again, but once on the plane your coat “always” fits overhead.

Like any cell phone camera question, and there seem to be too many of these, it all depends on what you want to do with your picture. If you only want to post it on Facebook, then it doesn't matter what you use. If you want to put it on your wall, then it certainly does matter.

I'm heading to France on Saturday for a 2-week tour. I'm definitely taking my Sony a99ii and a 24-105 f/4 lens...and my phone (so I can keep in touch with my dad - my mom passed away last Sunday...and I'll miss my cat), but I'm still waffling about whether or not to take my all-in-one Lumix FZ-200 for the really long shots I can't get with my Sony. Like the OP said, it's another thing to carry. My last time overseas - and the last time on a plane, even, was 2016 when I went to Israel. I would give (almost) anything to go to Prague and Vienna!

Just an update: I'm taking my camera with the 18-400mm lens. I did a trial run out to Crex Meadows with my sister last weekend, and guess what? I thought I had the 18-400 lens on the camera and I had my 70-300mm Nikon lens instead. It balked at closeups of flowers, and I didn't have a wide enough angle for the overlook views... This is exactly why I bought the 18-400 lens! I will have my phone camera as a backup, and will use it for indoor shots in churches and other places. I bought a backpack from Sakroots that fits the dimensions the airline (KLM) requires for under the seat. The padded laptop pocket fits my camera perfectly! I will take my holster case, but put it in my bigger carry on bag. I have stuffed (for now) with all my charger cords, battery charger, etc. Getting excited now! We leave tomorrow.
