DSLR Controller with TP-LINK MR3040 confusion!

I have struggled to 'frustration-level' for nearly a year to setup this pair for wifi control of my Canon EOS Rebel dslrs with no luck. I thought I was 'computer savvy' until I confronted this tech. Just turned 80 and can't afford to go to Canon T6i, etc. that has built-in wifi. My main goal is backyard bird watching...hummingbirds mainly. Anybody use this combination successfully? Please help!

.First off there are some things you should do and make sure your wifi is set up and working correctly. (Chances are you may have done this already)
1. Once you have your wifi setup. Test your wifi with your cellphone. So turn on wifi on your cellphone and try to connect
2. You should have your SSID setup(Wifi name) and enter your password or will ask for your password
3. Once you can confirm your phone is working and you have a good connection, then move on to the second issue.
4. I always try to address one problem at a time.
5. You should then be able to turn on your wifi on your camera and scan for the SSID (wifi name)abc123***(whatever you named it)
Just try this simple process.

Thank you so much for your quick reply, but unfortunately I do not have the T5 and above with 'built-in' WIFI. I intend to use the TP-LINK pocket wifi router model MR3040 with my T2i's for wifi remote of my cameras. Thanks again!

Well, my main question is does the camera support WIFI or does it have yes or no.

Thanks for checking in Alvin...I own 2 Canon T2i's and neither have "built-in" WIFI, thus the need for the TP-LINK MR-3040 wifi router ( it's pocket-size, built-in rechargeable battery, etc. ) which hooks up by a proprietary Canon mini-USB cable directly from camera-to-router all of which may then be controlled from an Android smartphone with DSLR Controller-app by Chainfire. Sorry, I wasn't more specific.

Good Morning
I have a better understanding and it's a lot of moving parts, it may or may not work but let me see what I can come up with.

The TP-Link router should be connected to your phone, hopefully you already paired the two. The next question is how to control the camera through the USB port. I am not familiar with that camera, however any time you want to remote control a device you would need an app that is specific to the device. I would go back to basics and find an app for a desktop or laptop then control the camera without the router (wired) from that computer. The wireless router only acts as a bridge between the camera and computer/phone and should be transparent once it is properly paired to the other side.

Thank you for addressing my problem, but evidently I was not clear about my cameras. None of them have 'built-in' WIFI. The reason for the TP-LINK is to use an 'external' WIFI transmitter for control of my pair of Canon Rebel T2i that do not have built-in WIFI like T6i and above. I did though, follow your suggestion to double check my Android and desktop WIFI.

I understood the camera did not have WiFi. As I had previously indicated, the TP link is a bridge to your phone, but I failed to write “wireless bridge”.
What I tried to explain is to make sure your phone has the proper app to control your camera model. Without a dedicated app it is unlikely you can control the camera from a remote divide such as a phone.
Also make sure the camera connection to the TP link has a good cable. Some cheap cables are only capable of charging a device and do not pass data.

My phone has DSLR Controller and many more apps to monitor/test my WIFI and 'yes', my WIFI is 'on' and strong on all my phones and desktop, laptop, pad. I guess you might call me one of those 'belt and suspenders' kinda guy.

In my case, rather than messing with wifi, I use a USB cable from my camera--> to a long USB extension cable--> to my laptop, which is running DigiCamControl. DigiCamControl has support for many cameras and will detect the camera automatically. It allows fine-grain tuning of the usual settings, course/fine focusing, live view, and more. DigiCamControl is also free (I donated some money to the author) and available on GitHub.com, so no crapware involved.
I set the camera up on a tripod out on the deck trained on the bird feeder, bird bath, whatever, and then run the USB cable pair into my dining room where the laptop sits on the table. Launch the app , then Live View, and do your thing.
Images are saved to your laptop and/or camera. The program also launches the default photo viewer (in Windows, this would be whatever photo viewer is launched when double-clicking a .jpg file). You can also configure an external editor to be launched after capture of an image.
Just my offering...

George

Hello
Very interesting and may need to give that a try. From the sound of it this would be something to try and see how it works for me. Where would find this software?
