"Your Mileage May Vary" I'm hearing this expression way too often, and I don't like it! Stop it!
I tend to like most expressions like this - expressions that fit many situations - but MPG doesn't fit into many situations. People should use words that are appropriate to the topic at hand Of course, people say lots of stupid things - "I'm going to go ahead and predrill some holes." "go ahead"? "predrill"? "I got a big enough of a bag of dog food." That "of a" is not necessary, but it seems as if people online are being paid to throw that in when it's meaningless. I could go on, but I'll stop here.

Very good observation and points, Jerry. As far as being successful in getting people to change, your mileage may vary.

"Your mileage may vary." Simply an commonly accepted phrase for
-Things may be different for you.
-You may get different results.
-Might not be the same for you.
...
Others are just poor grammar.

How about:
"It is what it is."
"Just sayin'".
Both are acceptable, so you can use them freely. Also, "At the end of the day..."

So why isn't "Your mileage may vary"?
Same category.

Because I don't like it.
Unlike the others, "YMMV" has a specific meaning, and it doesn't apply to dogs, or cats, or drills, or cameras.

To me "Your mileage may vary" is fine but not "Your MPG may vary".

It can be used in many places, but YMMV....
Ah, the old English teacher would love to comment, but defers to the barrage of comments that would come.
Back to hieroglyphics evidently...
