I have Luminar 4, Luminar AI & Luminar Neo all installed on my laptop. Problem is I'm running outta space. Can I delete or uninstall Luminar 4 & Luminar AI since I have Neo? If so how can i do this? I didn't see any uninstall options on any of these. I have a Mac Book Pro running Catalina. Thanx in advance

Go to the control panel on your computer, select the program then uninstall!...Julian

Do you use layers? If you use layers then you won't want to delete luminar 4. Neo does not have real layers. If you had a pc, I would say swap the old hard drive for a new one, since you have apple I would say you bought the wrong computer and should have bought one with a bigger hard drive.

I don't have a lot of experience with AI or NEO. Tons of experience with Luminar 4. Your basic issue is lack of space though. Simply eliminating a program, while it does free up some space, doesn't really provide you with a lot more space. Starting with Luminar 4 I believe, Skylum elected to manage pictures as a catalog. So you will need hard drive space to keep up with that functionality and merely removing the program won't ultimately help you much in that regard. So, if I were you, I would replace your existing drive with a higher capacity solid state drive or a newer regular hardrive. Another option would be to get a newer computer with a larger hardrive.

Also the comment was made that NEO doesn't have layers... To the best of my knowledge it does. It just implements layers in a different manner than you might be used to in Luminar 4. They rely more heavily on AI with the release of NEO. Now the program has additional intelligence that allows you to more easily select various complex objects (like buildings or sky) and edit those specific objects, which in reality is a layer (in lieu of using a brush to create a mask). You can also select some objects and create an inverse mask that covers everything else other than the object selected. At least that is my understanding from seeing several videos. So I believe masking is still available with NEO.

Neo will NOT do the things L4 and AI will do. Read the reviews of what these programs will do. L4 and AI are both stronger programs than Neo.

That maybe true too. I won't disagree with that. I think the question was about masks and while it looks different functionally in NEO, I believe you can do (or will soon be able to do) all the same kinds of masking that you could do in Luminar 4. There maybe some exceptions depending on their updates like I don't think radial masking was available in the initial release but they claim that all the masking functionality that was in Luminar 4 will eventually be in NEO.

In Luminar 4 Skylum added the catalog functionality and did away with the "save as" functionality that I used since I use an external drive. Unfortunately the catalog functionality doesn't work well with an external drive. There were other bugs too that they basically promised to fix and never did. I still use Luminar 4 but I'm suspicious of the support so I use it with some intrepidation. I worry that I'll make an edit and the program will crash rendering all the invested work wasted.

I did not say Neo did not have layers. I said real layers and if you used the product you would know what I mean. I hope the improve "layers" so they are usable but they are not. Try and import a transparent gif and layer it with your image. Not going to happen.

It does not have real layer. They are not the same as Luminar 4 and someone who uses photoshop On1 or other raw/photo editors will laugh at Neo layers. Lets hope they get better. Neo has some great masking after the last update.

Well.... It is just a different implementation than what you are used to but, it is layers. To your point however, NEO may not be complete for all the functionality that you experienced in Luminar 4 (or earlier Luminar versions or even other editors). I know for example that "radial" masking was not in the original release for NEO. But the goal for Skylum in NEO was to use AI to help you make it easier to select objects and turn those selections into usable masks. I do agree that Skylum never ever seems to be consistent with implementation and it gets confusing. Secondly, they don't listen to customers. So IMO they missed the boat on a few things. Fundamentally they could have built upon the original Luminar series and added new functionality without having to shake up the user interface completely. They could have even redone the platform with a new engine and still kept the user interface consistent. But nooo, someone decided that each new version was a new entity. I agree with you that if you are used to Luminar 4 or even an earlier version, what you see now looks and feels functionally different. Is that good or bad, I dunno..... but don't look for them to listen to you and fix anything. That is the biggest issue. Jim Nix usually does a reasonable job at trying to show what the new versions do. He is a speed talker but you can generally get what you need. Don't get me wrong. I pretty much love Luminar all 3 versions I just used Neo to reedit a shot and I liked the results. Neo has some missing things that hopefully will get fixed. I don't think the layers will but I could be wrong. They may never get layers right in this version, they were trying to increase speed so layers took a back seat. With photo editing you can do most everything with local edits and masking. But what they called "layers" is very limited.

Personally, I like using Luminar as a plugin to On1 photo Raw. It has layers and so it is not a big deal to me.

Not so quick! Don’t let the” PC/Mac wars” nonsense get to you. Both platforms face the identical challenge. Just add a portable hard drive, better yet a flash drive to what ya have already, It is so cheap that it is silly. Cheers!

Agreed! I use all of the Skylum products for some things they do well. Data management is not one of them. Skylum failed on that one, but does offer some fast and easy post work opportunities when you need them. I use Capture One for data management and more serious timel consuming work which plays nicely with Skylum as needed. Cheers!
