May the debate about whether it is duct tape or DuckĀ® Tape begin...

Irrelevant as they are both duct tape.

True, but Duck Tape has become the Kleenex/Xerox of tape to some. The brand name becomes synonymous with the product. But actually, I do wonder if the brand followed people mispronouncing the name of the product, like so many people saying nucular instead of nuclear. (I've even heard well educated people mispronounce that.)

I have used Duck brand duct tape. To me it is still duct tape. I own a hot tub. Some people have called it a jacuzzi, and I correct them. Jacuzzi is a brand and my hot tub is not a Jacuzzi. Pronouncing simple words that are pronounced as they are spelled incorrect, like nucular instead of nuclear, is one of my pet peeves. I can understand if it's a big word or spelled weird or something like that, but to mispronounce something so simple is just being lazy. My wife has a speech impediment where she mispronounces certain words. It's how her brain is wired, and even she gets nuclear correct.

I use gaffers tape when I want to be able to remove the tape, and duct tape when I do not. Anyone who uses gaffers tape for applications calling for duct tape, and have no intention of removing it, are just waisting their money, and in many applications the duct tape does a better job.
