ZDNet has a scary article today about a Russian botnet that does far more than DDoS attacks, and on a massive scale.

h-t-t-p-s://www-dot-zdnet.com/article/russian-fronton-botnet-spreads-misinformation-on-a-massive-scale/

(Rework the start of that URL to the standard Hyper Text Transmission Protocol Secure address prefix... remove the dashes '-' and replace dot with .)

Always bear in mind when reading anything on the Internet that nefarious sources use deliberately deceptive practices to get your attention, polarize you, and otherwise spread false information.

Truth? Uhhh, what is that in 2022?

Rolling on the floor laughing!

Yeah, I love that scene. It has multiple layers of insinuation and innuendo to it.

ZDNet is one of the oldest and most respected news organizations for business and industry. I've read their work for over 50 years. Foundry, formerly known as IDG, is the other one of similar stature. They both have publications serving the IT industry.

The author of the article I (almost) linked is known for her reporting on IT security issues.

"Always bear in mind when reading anything on the Internet that nefarious sources use deliberately deceptive practices to get your attention, polarize you, and otherwise spread false information." The same can be said for TV "news" stations.

Generally speaking, articles that are of the "attacking" nature should be viewed with suspicion.

You mean stations that call themselves "news" stations?

ZDNet is a respected, trusted source. The author of that article, Charlie Osborne, is a cybersecurity journalist and photographer who writes for ZDNet and CNET from London. She is extremely well known in IT business circles and has been a reliable source for many years.

The point is that vigilant awareness is needed, because bad actors want our data and want to use our computing resources to spread their malware to everyone.

Yes, I understand. A great deal of the phony news consists of attacks and ridiculous comments that some people believe immediately.

No, in most cases, it's true and accurate.

Edward R. Murrow has been rolling around in his grave for decades...

"Just the facts, Ma'am" journalism is gone from most outlets.
