Rat/s destroyed some of my van wires--In an airport parking lot.
Had an experience I thought might be of interest to UHH travelers who leave their vehicles in airport parking lots. We leave our van at the “Parking Spot” at MCI -Missouri Continental Airport). Also known as KCI (Kansas City International). This time we left our van for 9 days. Upon our return, as we left the sheltered parking lot, the warning light for service activated. Due to some skilled driving by my wife, we were able to get the Toyota to a dealership without having to call AAA or having an accident. Upon inspection, the mechanics discovered a partial rat’s nest constructed largely of fuel line electric wires. Needless, to say the repair will be costly. Should run at least $430 but no one was injured by auto failure. Lesson learned: Next time we leave a vehicle parked for several days in an area near-native habitat, I will have a kill rat trap, baited under the hood. And yes, I plan to report the damages to officials at the “Parking Spot”.

They did the same thing to my motorcycle a couple of years ago. I had to get the wiring replaced and also the ignition. They sure can make a mess of things. My motorcycle was parked in my garage which is actually an old converted barn. An attractive place for those darn mice. My repairs cost me ab out $1100.00.
My son had a similar experience but it was an ants nest and infestation. Sorry this happened to you.

Had a significant amount of damage to my Porsche. Made a claim to my insurance company undercomprehensive and they took care of the cost less my deductible. The repair shop made the recommendation. I never would have thought about it. I feel fortunate.
Squirrels will also do this
I have had ants build a nest in the fuel pump relay cutting off electric to run the pump......Toyota Supra
Rats and mice cause thousands of dollars' worth of damage to cars. Their teeth never stop growing so they can never stop chewing. There's not much you can do to protect a car from them. Well, if you hire a bunch of cats to stand guard, that could work. : )

Wow, never heard of this.
I keep squirrels out of the carriage house but it is not mice/rat proof.
I have an RV built on a van chassis. Inside I have 3 Victor ultrasonic "rodent repellers. Under the hood I have two "Rid-a-Rat" flashing lights. For backup I have a half dozen Victor spring traps baited with peanut butter. Before I put in the electronic gadgets, I would trap the occasional mouse. I've not caught one in almost two years. Apparently the gadgets work. I continue deploying the traps as an indicator that the devices are actually repelling the critters.
