Really nice work on these captures of this bee in flight. I have not had much success in trying to do this.

Thank you, Will, for viewing and commenting. I would not have been able to take these shots as easily on my D7200. The Nikon D500's continuous auto focus capabilities, even if 5+ years old, are quite impressive.

Amazing clarity and the lighting is perfect……#1 is my favorite.

Thank you, photophly, for viewing and commenting. This was one shoot where full sun was helpful.

Wow! Ronnie! Really outstanding! The D500 does amazing auto focus things too.

Thank you very much, Chief. I would not be able to take such shots easily on my D7200. The D500 opens up the possibilities for sure.

I remember you posting a carpenter bif pic a few weeks ago. πŸ‘ Thanks for the inspiration.

Thank you very much, Mike. Flying bugs are tough, but I find flying small birds even more challenging. In my backyard, they fly frantically from tree to tree in less than 3 seconds a trip! The bumblebee on the other hand hovered around a wooden bench for much longer.

Apologies to Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov; for title theft. Unless, it is a carpenter bee, in which case, no apology necessary, just thanks for all the great music.

Nikon D500, 300mm f/4, tc 1.4 iii
Group autofocus, 1/3200 and 1/4000 sec.

The red background is the deck floor, the green is grass. The deck floor needs a paint job, so I'm happy for the bokeh.

Comments and critiques welcome.

Breathtakingly, eye-catchingly beautiful and perfectly captured πŸπŸ†πŸπŸ†πŸ

These are spectacular! You could say they are beeutiful! I, like many, was first intrigued by classical music as a kid by hearing music like "Flight of the Bumblebee", "Peter and the Wolf", etc. And a field trip to "The Nutcracker". A big thank you to my (public) schools for that!

For your next assignment you are required to photograph the cuckoo bird (which may require travel to Europe), as captured in music in many pieces throughout musical history - one of my favorites being from 1735 - in Daquin's "Le Coucou" in E minor. This was played on a harpsichord, which often was a very dull instrument due to the inability to vary the volume of any given note. He made up for that in this frenetic piece of music which employed the "cuckoo" call of the famous bird. Here played by Trevor Pinnock: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1cq8034cr8

Actually, as I type this I am listening to the many-talented Katia Buniatishvili play the Hungarian Rhapsody #2 with probably as much freneticism as Liszt would have played it:

Steve, Khatia's performance of the Rachmanimoff PC #2 isn't too shabby either. I heard it today after a long time.
