Spectacular Eagle photos!!!

Thanx! The eagle flew just outside the minimum focusing distance from my 500pF. Great light helps, too!

Very nice. That definitely does NOT look like a Green Heron - coloring, size, wingspan, bill, etc.

Remembered my DSLRs this time-D500 with 500pF attached & D850 with 300pF attached. Partly cloudy to mostly sunny. High wind from the East kept the birds all flying low and very fast. About 51 F-very cool for this time of year. Not much activity but I did manage to capture a few good shots. The great light allowed me to keep ISOs delightfully low.

The Bald Eagle flew about 25 feet from my head. Just outside the 500pF min focus distance!

My first Green Heron. A pair actually. Fun to watch them move from spot to spot looking for fish.

Tote is some kind of cargo ship hauling what I do not know. I like the mountains in the background.

Driftwood is all over the place on the beach at Point-No-Point.

Red Hot Pokers just blooming.

Caspian Tern flew, actually almost hovered next to me in the wind.

The last shot is a Bald Eagle searching the beach as it was low tide. He had no luck during the time I was there.

No otter the time.

Download and enjoy!

My search of Merlin shows Green Heron. Check the orange elbows and lack of feathers on the chest. It appears a bit smaller as well. Another photog there agreed -Green Heron. Thanx for viewing!

Look more carefully. I use Merlin to assist my IDs.

I've shot many Green Herons and I'm sorry to say what you shot is definitely a Great Blue Heron.

A Green Heron is a little bigger than a large crow and while their necks are longer than you might think when you see them "tucked", they are not as long as the bird you shot. The coloring is all wrong as well.

Here are a couple of shots of Green Herons:

I keep hearing that about the heron. I have hundreds of GBHs and none of them look like this one, actually two. I do admit that the bird does not resemble a Green Heron as much as the photos in Merlin show. Juveniles I have photographed have considerably more feathers on their necks and throats.

I've always understood that these are Great Blue Herons. My bird book is old but the big difference other than the color and much shorter neck ( for the Green Heron) is the size of the bird. Green Herons are 16 to 22" in height. The GBH is 42" - 52".
