Nice Keyboard

I saw a nice keyboard reviewed online yesterday. It's the Logitech K780. It's wireless, and it will work with many different devices. It uses batteries, and I prefer the rechargeable kind, but it is appealing. There is a less expensive K380 available, but I don't know what the differences are. The writing is printed on the keys, so that's a consideration.

Nothing against these keyboards. I just can't use a straight keyboard any longer. It didn't take long for me to develop carpal tunnel symptoms after my work switched to the electronic medical record and I had to type many notes per day.

I do well with something like this.

This is the closest I could find to what I'm actually using, which is an ancient Microsoft ergonomic multimedia keyboard that plugs in. It lacks the "multimedia" buttons, but I don't use those anyway.

In general I like Logitech’s keyboards. The 1 I’m using now is almost 10 years old. The problem I have with ergonomic keyboards is I don’t always touch type. A lot of times I’m entering number/letter combinations that don’t enter well touch typing & the hump in the middle of an ergonomic keyboard is inconvenient. Thanks for the link, Jerry.

I don't like wireless keyboards and mice. Unless your computer is further away than a corded keyboard could handle, why waste batteries?

I typically get 2 years or more from 1 or 2 AA cell Logitech mice or keyboards. Way better than mucking around with cable connected items.

I'm using a K345 Logitech it wasn't very expensive, wireless KB and mouse combo, only one USB "dongle" It just hasn't missed a beat, I'm not very fussy about the feel of keyboard I admit. Maybe it's older and replaced by the K380 mentioned above. For my laptop I went thru 3 wireless mice then found a Logitech and now maybe 10 years later that one is still sweet. Experience like that makes me favour Logitech product.

Wow this isn't just a keyboard it will bluetooth to tablet or phone as well as computer. I have Bluetooth headphones that will connect to more than one device at the same time so watching (for example) a youtube movie on tablet and a phone call comes in on the phone, you're onto it, it will pause or mute the video for the phone call. Confession: I haven't tried it but reviewers claim its excellent.

Odd that one of the Cons is "Uses disposable batteries." It could also use rechargeable batteries."

The problem with rechargeable or disposable batteries in hand held devices is ongoing. Generally the typical alkaline battery holds more charge than the same sized NiMh rechargeable. Plus the rechargeable doesn't hold its charge for very long (nor does it generate the same voltage). So put an alkaline in and you will get a very long run time. Use a rechargeable and during the same period you may have to recharge it several times. Having to put a rechargeable into a docking station to charge is also a bit of a pain. They make mice using rechargeables because they know that you will think it a good idea and will buy one - I bet you won't still have it in 2 years.
My logitechs are still going strong 8 years later. They are extraordinarily good quality. Dearer but well outlasted all the other makes I have had in the past
Lithium cells tend to hold a good charge for a long time but manufacturers tend to use a small sized cell because it makes the weight of the device less and you can make the device smaller. I guess that a lithium battery could work okay in a 2 cell mice (much higher voltage per cell) although they also have a higher self drain rate than alkalines.
The obvious advantage of alkaline AA cells is a good one has a shelf life of up to 5 years and you can buy them almost anywhere in the world. And they are cheap. Here you can buy a pack of 100 for $20 USD odd (40 pack $12 USD) with a shelf life approaching 5 years - no need to ever run out of batteries. If you insist in buying a 4 pack of alkalines at the supermarket (and slitting your wrists to pay for them) then you are less than practical.
I love my bluetooth headphones for their portability - walking around a room without worrying about a cable. But it is annoying having to charge them every 6-8 days since they have a lithium cell inside them. I would have liked a larger battery and the extra weight would not have been an issue.

I have the mk550 Logitech mouse and key board and love it. About $60.00 on amazon.

I have a wired Azio with lit-up keys, set to blue. That makes it so much easier to type.
