I was lucky to see this guy today.
He was fast and I only got a quick shot. Lucky to get him in focus.
I wasn't ready, and I had a low shutter speed. I wanted to raise it, but he was gone in a flash.

Good for you, I really enjoy hummers, have 4 feeders out and will sometimes spend hours trying to get the perfect shot.

Nice one. I so much prefer to see them feeding from a flower like this rather than an HB feeder.

I have one feeder and I used to get them regularly. But this winter they didn't show up, and so far I have not seen them.
I hope that they come back.

Yes, when you can get them, that is great.
I used to be able to go to the botanical garden and see them, but recently they have been hiding there also. Sometimes I can hear them, but I can't find them, let alone grab a photo.

Here I was just lucky, I was looking for some good flowers, and not finding anything, but this guy just showed up for a very brief visit. And I mean fast.

I guess they’re all on this side of the bay.

I saw my first hummer this year early in the second week of April, for the last couple of weeks the feeders have been really busy and a lot of turf wars going on but this week they have slowed way down, I figure that the females are busy nest building, I imagine that it may be some time before the feeders get busy again, I still see a few males hanging around and every now and again a female will show up but the feeders are getting less than 1/5th of the traffic that they were last week.

I think that it is important to get your feeders out early because you don't want the birds to pass your yard by and find your neighbor's feeders before finding yours. If your area is like mine we are moving into the time that they nest, their diets change a little bit, they may be eating more bugs, and the females will be busy with the nest and not show up at the feeders as much. I suspect that in 4 to 6 weeks the females will be back and the feeders will be busy till late summer. I noticed last year that the males left before the females, they also arrive before the females.

I saw my first hummer this year early in the secon... (show quote)

I keep my feeder about all year because I used to have them feeding all year.
But last year they stopped coming in the winter, and they started in the spring. This year they haven't started at all. I have not seen one in months.
I used to have one male that would take a position and guard the feeder, chasing the others away. He was there for about two years. But now he is gone and there is no one to take his place. I still keep the feeder out, just incase one comes back.

Seems to be some rufous on the sides, may be an Allen's Hummingbird. Either way great capture
