From a trip this past February to visit family there. One of the more laid back tourist towns in California...as opposed to frenetic Beverly Hills. The streets of Carmel house many exclusive boutiques, shops and terrific restaurants
that try to replicate an "old world" charm. Carmel is located on the beautiful central California coast peninsula of Monterey and is home to one of the earliest California Missions. Lots to see and enjoy here.

I was taking these photos while walking a rambunctious Boston Terrier and photographing with one hand.

No, it doesn't. The distinguishing feature of Solvang is the Danish architecture. The town was settled by Danes. It's true that there are some interesting shops there, such as expensive jewelry stores. There are also some places to eat outdoors, wonderful bakeries as well as "tourist" shops that sell souvenirs. There is an old mission that is within walking distance of the center of the town. We drove down Hwy1 and ended up taking a side road to Solvang and stayed there for a day. I didn't take a lot of pictures and could have taken some better ones, but I want to show you the difference anyway.

You can also access the Pebble Beach golf course from the town. Another opportunity to get some great Beach scenes

We drove down Hwy 1 from Carmel to Santa Barbara just a couple of weeks ago. There were a couple of areas of road construction. No big deal. No closures.

Thanks for the update therwol...appreciate the news!!

Well, maybe if you've had a few drinks!! Just kidding bbradford however Solvang has a Danish theme and is very popular. We used to every year when we lived in West Los Angeles...my favorite shops were the bakeries!!
