Digital images shared in this post were captured in RAW using an EOS 5DIII and the EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II and Extender EF 2x III. Processing was performed in Lightroom v6 and noise processing in Topaz DeNoise6. The camera was mounted to a tripod with gimbal head.
Sanderling The sanderling is a small wading bird. It runs along the sandy beaches it prefers with a characteristic "bicycling" action of its legs, stopping frequently to pick small food items.
Sanderling Most shorebirds are carnivorous and eat a range of insects, mollusks, crustaceans, worms, larvae, tadpoles, and similar prey. The term shorebird covers several related bird families that are part of this distinct group, and more than 180 species could be considered true shorebirds around the world.
Sanderling Willets are large, stocky shorebirds with long legs and thick, straight bills considerably longer than the head.
Willet Willets are often seen alone. They walk deliberately, pausing to probe for crabs, worms and other prey in sand and mudflats, or to pick at insects and mollusks.
Willet
Your photos do justice to these shorebirds. Your notes enhance the appreciation of these critters.

These are excellent Paul, the sanderling captures are amazing.
Nice shots of these mostly forgotten shore birds. Always enjoy watching the Sanderings outracing an incoming wave with their little feet just a blur.
Beautiful set Paul. Love the Willet with the sand crab
Thank you tcthome, Jim, Susan, Hereford, Jack, Jeff! I had better luck with the birds here at Ponce than a few days later at Canaveral.
