Resurrected my 1st Rebel EOS while going through a cupboard. Hadn’t used it for over 12 yrs. Noticed very sticky grip and laterally, where you remove the “CompactFlash” card the (?) rubber is just as tacky. Anyone with a cure?

Alcohol works for me, but there may be a better solution. Anyone tried Goo Gone?

Goo Gone carefully applied should work.

I had a pair of binoculars that did that, scrubbed with alcohol wipes seemed to work well.
Hopefully the Goo Gone will not attack the rubber itself.

I have used regular rubbing alcohol on a number of vintage cameras that were sticky. Works well.

I use charcoal lighter to get rid of the residue from peel-off labels. Works great!
I don't know if the sticky stuff on cameras is the same, or if the lighter fluid will damage the camera materials.

I wouldn't use lighter fluid on any kind of rubber/plastic as I would anticipate it to attack the material.
Might work great for label removal though, especially on glass, but I would expect it to make plastics cloudy.

But the rubber part is already cloudy. However, alcohol will remove the stickyness but does take a long time and afterward the rubber doesn't have the same feel like when it was new. It's kind of hardened and smooth.

I'll take "not the same feel as new" over sticky.

It's hardened and smooth because it's old. Why would you expect rubber that is old to feel like new. Shissh!
