Just taking pictures . . .
I cannot even remember if I ever introduced myself -- so much water has gone over the dam in the last two months -- but thought I would do so this morning. I have been taking photos for about 50 years, but only seriously for the last fifteen. There is probably not a person on this forum who doesn't know a lot more technically than I do about photography. I just look through my camera and when I see something I like, I shoot. The main things I shoot are people. I am fascinated by people. I also photograph a lot of flowers. Many years ago I went to art school and did drawing for a year until my GI benefits ran out. I can scarcely draw a stick man now, but the skill that stuck with me is composition. I am told I have a good sense of it. Reflecting on hos I take photos, I think composition is about 90% of what I think about when taking pictures. At this point I have about 250,000 in my archives.

i think composition is the primary concern when shooting. you can have a technicaly perfect photo that is so sharp you can cut diamonds with it, but without interesting composition the photo is still boring. I bet your art school traing helps you even at a subconcious level.
