I have been using Sony cameras for quite some time. My main workhorse was my Sony A7 iii. Over the years of carrying a lot of equipment, I purchased a Sony rx100 Vii and a Sony rx10 iv. Now a days it seems I use these two camera exclusively and my photographs seem to be as good as if they were show with my A7 iii. I shoot street and nature most of the time. I guess I just wanted some peoples opinions on these camera and have discovered what I have. Or if anyone has any comments on this topic.
I shoot an RX10MIV as my “kayak” camera. I love that I’m able to get the shots from a kayak that would be pretty cumbersome with my FF Nikon. My Olympus OM-1 isn’t quite as cumbersome but I’d lose the flexibility of getting an effective 24-600mm focal range without changing lenses. The 24fps rate along with the A9 level focus tracking make it the only bridge camera I’ve found that is good for BIF, especially from a kayak. That being said it will never replace those cameras for everything else. I’m not a fan of the ergonomics and especially electronic zoom. I can get pretty good IQ from the 1” sensor in good light but I’m often shooting in early morning or close to dusk and end up having to push the ISO and end up really having to work in post. It can’t come close to the M4/3 raw files from the OM-1 and those can’t compare to the 45mp raw files from my Z7.
Thanks for your input. You bring up great points.

Regarding the RX10m4: Perhaps/probably you already know this but it's worth saying in case others are given a partial view of the way to zoom that camera. I agree with almost everything you say about it, btw, the good and the not so good.
The lens can be manually zoomed (you need two hands and that may be the issue in a kayak) and can be configured via the menu to make that super-quick. Unless I am doing video and want a smooth zoom I always use the left hand for the focal length. When I turn on the camera and want to shoot something I know will require all the zoom that I have I just twist it at the same time as I position it in front of my eye(s). It takes, I think, less than a second to get full length that way. Since I usually let the camera do its own focusing (spot), this is very natural feeling after getting used to which ring to grab.
I find the camera to be a reasonable weight but not something I want to shoot with one hand. Others whose hands are younger or stronger may not find this to be an issue.
Thank you so much for ur post.. just like to hear what other people are thinking about these two cameras.
My wife decided to up her travel photography game. She bought a RX100vi and RX10iv. It is hard to not be PO'd and insanely jealous! She shoots Auto JPEGs too! It really hurts when my images don't measure up.
I have gotten nothing but fantastic results with my cameras.. that’s why I was looking for feedback. Thank you.
I’ve had my RX100VII for a couple years now and I can’t say enough good about it. It has way more features and controls than I can use, but whatever I might need, it’s there. I’m very happy with the image resolution, and the auto focus is superb. It’s pretty much my go to camera. I was considering a full frame camera, but have decided that it really wouldn’t offer anything more that what my RX100VII does. I’m very happy with this camera.
I went through several of the RX100 series, but I sold them. Just not for me.

I’ve been using an rx10iv for a couple of years now and love it. I’m curious to know why you feel you also need the rx100. When do you choose to use one over the other?

On vacations I only carry one camera, the Sony HX99, has a Zeiss 24-720 mm lens. Shoots RAW, has a pop up viewfinder and flash, even the rear screen folds down for LOW shots. This camera does it all for me.
I use the rx100 Vii as my everyday always have with me camera. When doing wildlife or really need a powerful zoom…. I take the rx10 iv out .
I love my rx100, take it every where, slips in my pocket and as you point out, I can blow the shots up to 9x13 and you wouldn't know it was taken on a 1" sensor.
Thanks for your input. Appreciated.

Your photos speak for themselves as to the quality of the 99. And half the price of the RX100.
