The Nikon Rumors website claims that the D5200 will be introduced before the end of the year.
They say;
It will use the same 24MP DX-format CMOS sensor (same as in the D3200)
and have an EXPEED 3 processor (same as in the D3200)
and use an ISO range: 100-6,400 (expandable up to 25,600, D3200 could go only up to 12,800)
and have 2,016 pixel RGB metering sensor (same as the D600, the D3200 had a 420 pixel RGB sensor)
it will have Continuous shooting speed: 5fps (the D3200 could do only 4 fps)
and have a Vari-angle LCD screen (3", 921k dots)

The rumors about the D5200, D7100 and D400 have all been flying all year. DX users are getting very antsy to find out what is next after the D3200 since Full Frame users have had 4 new choices released in 2012.

yes, it's about time the DXers had something to cheer about. I guess the D5200 followed by a D7100 next spring. I think all the Dxs will have the 24MP sensor, the D5200 will have improved video functionality ( and no internal motor!!) and the D7100 will have the extra build quality. The purists will be sniffy about it, but Nikon need to hold the entry-level market - it's what makes the money.....

I wonder if the first production runs of the d5200 will not be quality controlled, thereby being plagued with problems like the first run of the d600?

If the d5200 is going to have the d3200 24 mp sensor and processor there may not be much that hasn't already been tested....

Seems reasonable but then one has to wonder what they are going to do with the D7100? Doesn't it seem unlikely they'd have three cameras with the same sensor/processor?

Of course I woudn't have guessed they'd have used the same sensor/processor in the D5100 as the D7000 so that goes to show what I know.

The D5100 was actually introduced after the D7000, same processor, but a lot of other features were taken away. Since the D5200 is likely to come out before the D7100, I am guessing we will see something pretty amazing from the new top level DX body when it finally appears.

I'm hoping!

Perhaps the reason for doing it later is to give it the next generation of sensor and processor.
