I would appreciate any suggestions for online training for IPhone photography. My pictures certainly are not up to the standard of many I have seen posted here! Thanks!

I’ve used this resource. https://www.instagram.com/iPhone_Photography_School/ Don’t know how good it is, but might be a start.

Several good books on Amazon on iPhone photography.

You can even read them on your phone using the Kindle app. I have it on my iPhone and read books and articles from the phone whenever I can such as waiting for appointments, etc.

If you are close to an Apple store, they offer a Free IPhone Photography class. You mentioned you think your IPhone images are not up to standard with what is being posted here in the Hog. Well, why don't you post one of your images that you feel is inadequate and ask people here in this section to critique it. There are many good photographers here that could offer you suggestions on ways to improve your shot. In my opinion, critique's, if given properly are a good way to get feedback from someone with an outside perspective. It would be a good way for you to ask questions, get feedback, get ideas etc.

Emile Pakarklis has a lot of good free stuff on his YouTube channel plus you can buy his course if you like.

I used some of his clips when I was teaching a unit on smartphone photography in my regular photo classes.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. As suggested I am attaching a few recent I phone pics …all were basically point and shoot e.g. no adjustments in settings (hence the need for training). Comments and suggestions welcome!

As a suggestion when you are posting your images. Choose your image and then Check the " Store Original" box. That way, people can click on the download and get an isolated view of just that image. Please remember that my comments are purely subjective. In your first image with the dog, I think there is too much of the snow in the foreground and I find those dark shadow lines distracting. I would have come in closer or in post, cropped the image just above the those dark shadows. As far as the dog, I think he is centered too much in the frame. I would have put his behind a little more to the right of the frame giving him a little more space to the left keeping his shadow. You could crop the image to see what this would look like. Also, you could try flipping the image so the dog is pointing the other way. It appears that you took this photo standing up, you could try next time getting down lower to the ground and getting closer to the dog to see what that might look like. Getting lower or getting higher if you can will always give you a different look.

The lighthouse image: Personally, I don't know what you want me to look at. The red tower or the lighthouse. I like those green rails leading the eye to that green on the lighthouse. You could have just walked around a bit trying to incorporate those rails in with the lighthouse. Lower angles maybe? You could try cropping it now to see what you can come up with. You could straighten the horizon just a tad, it looks like it's a bit slanted to the left but it could be my old eyes. I like the people in the shot, it adds perspective element in relation to the lighthouse. I might have taken several shots as they got closer for a better comparison. I like the potential of this scene alot. I'm not sure what direction that is but I would go back at sunset and try getting the sun in that shot. Also, stormy skies would make a great image. Again, getting down lower to shoot from a different angle might make for an interesting image.

The third image. Hmm, for me it's a no go. Again, just a subjective opinion. I do however really like the looks of that leafless tree on the right. I would have tried to capture just that tree if I could with the setting sun. I would have liked to see more of that tree maybe including the top if possible. I think with that golden sky and the dark silhouetted tree against that background would be a pretty shot.

Thanks for showing us your images. I hope to see more of them.
