Specifically, I want to take a new SD card and dedicate it to have all of my pics from various other SD's so I can hook up my camera to the TV and do the slide show thing. My difficulty is in moving old pics from old SD's from the computer files where they are stored to the new SD. When I make the moves everything seems OK until I put the SD into the camera, and I find anywhere from a few to none of the pictures there. Yet according to the computer they are there. So what's up here? It can be done, because I somehow or another got 2 folder fulls there, but I can't figure out how to reliably do this. Cmon Hoggers, help me with this! Thanks

Format the sd card in the camera, then move the files in but not in folders.

Believe me, I wish it was that easy. I have done exactly that, as well as many other things.

BTW, when I make the moves I have the SD in a computer slot, because I do not have a cable for it. Might that make a difference?? I kind of doubt it.

I don't think it makes a difference. You can do slide show with the images the camera took but not images you put on the SD card. I believe there is some extra files on the SD card to tell the cameras the images it took.

Not exactly sure I follow you. Have you tried to do this? For some reason I occasionally succede in getting the results I want. But I have too many files to try this hit or miss approach.

I never tried to connect the camera to a TV but when I tried to put some images onto the SD card I can't view it on the camera LCD. The camera doesn't see those files. It only sees the files that it created. But I have Nikon.

Hmm you have given me some food for thought. Altho, as I have said, I do occasionally succeed. All you need to see your camera images on TV is the right cable, assuming camera and TV have connections for it.

The operating systems are different, the way they handle the files.
Some cameras cannot display images placed on the card by a computer.
My T1i cannot.
Mine will not display an image rotated by windows either,

What sort of TV do you have? Why do you need the camera to be involved? There are some easier methods for slide shows!

Some TVs will do a slide show.

Exactly. If the TV is 10 years or newer it has slide show functions built in. Put all your images on a SD card with a USB card reader, "thumb drive" or USB disc. Plug it in to one of the USB ports and use the TV remote for controlling the slide show.

I still have yet to try that. We have a ton of Fall Acadia and a bunch of Winter Iceland shots that I'd like to see how they look on the TV.

A camera is not a general purpose computer.

A camera is a highly specific computer. To do what a camera needs to do successfully, it manages the layout and file formats of the removeable memory cards in a high specialized fashion, in ways that are very specific to each camera body / model.

Images from other cameras and camera types are not plug-n-play via the removable media (the SD / CF / etc cards). Your general purpose computer and robust operating system handles these things and these robust use-cases. Camera's and their operating systems are not designed for this purpose.

Pay attention to the suggestions in the replies that focus on ideas on how best to consolidate images across multiple cameras onto a physical media or wired / wireless connection that can communicate with your TV. Expecting a camera to perform this function is beyond the intended design.

I am no expert. But I know that the people at Canon did not lie. Read CHG_CANON over n over a couple of times. He is trying to tell you what the Canon techs did not, but should have. Different brands of cameras speak different languages. Different models of the same brand speak different dialects. I had to learn this the hard way when I used the same SD card in my Canon Rebel and Canon point n shoot while on vacation.

When you download your photos into your computer, the photo files get re-writen into a language common to your computer/processing program. Adobe Photoshop is not the same as Corel PrintShop Pro. PaintShop Pro 2018 will not convert Canon R series CR3 files, but PaintShop Pro 2022 will.

So, take the camera out of the process. Load the images from your computer files onto the SD card in jpg format ( you may have to use your post processing program to do this), then use your computer to feed the photos to the TV.
