This cannon fired the first round of the Battle of Gettysburg from the spot were it sits today.
General John Buford and his calvery of 2,900 men opened the battle on July 1, 1863. He died within six months from typhoid fever.
The cannon that fired the opening shot.
The town of Gettysburg today.

Nice shots and history - I read recently about the encroachment by construction adjacent to the battlefield. Wasn't sure if that is true. Appreciate the pics!
I love history and photos (past and present) help it to come alive. Nice photos.

Which side was General Buford on?
Nice shots (not to make a pun).

I can't say I go there everyday but I haven't seen much in the way of encroachment. Construction in the area is very tightly controlled.
