Opening shot at Gettysburg

This cannon fired the first round of the Battle of Gettysburg from the spot were it sits today.

General John Buford and his calvery of 2,900 men opened the battle on July 1, 1863. He died within six months from typhoid fever.

Nice shots and history - I read recently about the encroachment by construction adjacent to the battlefield. Wasn't sure if that is true. Appreciate the pics!

Which side was General Buford on?

I can't say I go there everyday but I haven't seen much in the way of encroachment. Construction in the area is very tightly controlled.
