I believe it to be one of the Sawfly larvae - it seems to have enough prolegs to fit the bill. I have not yet found a better ID.

It is on a baby tomato leaf - this is 1:1 with a 36mm extension tube.

Do you wander around like Sherlock Holms with magnifying glass to find these little guys? Great shots, I've never had much luck with extension tubes

Thanks Curmdgeon, this was in my greenhouse, I was checking for aphids. Yes, extension tubes are an added difficulty but also an added bonus with such tiny things as this one. Thanks for commenting.

Nice shots! I do agree with tinusbum. This is the rear end of it, with a pair of posterior spiracles. This one would be a hunter of aphids. If it was sitting very still, then maybe its looking to pupate or its in the terminal stages of being parasitized.

Thanks Tom and Mark, I can see that now. Most Syrphid larvae I have seen were almost transparent which threw me off the scent - my excuse anyway

Brenda, you have a good eye for finding the creatures of the tiny. I seldom, if ever, am able to find specimens in this stage of their lifecycle so thanks for sharing yours.
