I have an area of my back yard that is a work in progress, to be set up as a bird photography area.
I just have old tree limbs and small trunks and a few other things for the birds to perch on so I can photograph them with a more natural look.
I have no store-bought feeders in the area so as to keep it all natural looking for the photos.
Photos were taken with my D850, using the 200-500mm lens. All photos are straight out of the camera, only I have done, is crop them.

The D850 and 200 to 500mm is a fantastic combination! And you did great work with it, Tom. Really nice photos!

Beautifully done, Tom. Love the creamy bokeh also.

Beautiful photos. Even if you have feeders, if you have plenty of branches around the birds will pose nicely for you... And quite a few species such as cardinals, juncos, and thrashers are perfectly happy getting seeds from the ground.
