I am planning a trip to Hawaii in September and of course going to Pearl Harbor. I know I need to 8 weeks before make reservations to visit the Arizona Memorial. Then was going to see the mighty Mo. in reading the information for visiting the Missouri it says “no large cameras” I was planning on taking a Nikon Z7ii with a 24-200 lens. I have visited other ships; Alabama, Texas and Yorktown and carried much larger cameras with out any issue, but things change I know more idiots doing stupid things. Has any body gone recently and carried a similar size camera? Or would the Nikon Z7 be considered a “large camera” ? I have emailed them but no response in 2 days. Would hate to be reduced to an IPhone, egads!

Try calling (808) 455-1600. When asking questions over the phone, make sure you note the date, time, and person spoken to.

Visited the Missouri in 2014.

At that time I had a Canon 6D. Around the Pearl Harbor Memorial complex I used my 24-105 and 100-400 lenses. Onboard the Missouri and the Bowfin I only took my 35mm f/1.4 lens so that I could take interior shots without a flash. At no time did any staff even take a 2nd look at my camera. Going out to the Arizona Memorial and to the Missouri there are, as I recall, restrictions on how much you can carry. Cameras though were not an issue. Tripods, camera bags, and long lenses would probably cause some comment though. Onboard and below decks a short, fast lens will be your best bet anyway. There is an on-site property storage facility. Free or a slight charge. Don't remember which. Good place to park extra items while you visit the ship, memorial, etc. You can also just walk back out to the parking lot and re-enter to store or retrieve items, but, thefts from cars do occasionally occur.
There is an extra fee for a below-decks tour of the Missouri. About an hour but well worth it.

"large"? Really? And what exactly does that mean? It's like saying, "No ugly people allowed."

Maybe it just depends who's on duty that day, and what kind of a mood they're in.

You'd better send this to the Missouri people.

Having toured that ship twice, I suspect the restriction is due to some really tight spaces you need to walk through and some really steep ladders you need to climb. I have used a Nikon D7100 or D7500 with 16-80 mm lens without issue. But lugging my Tamron 100-400 mm lens would be a problem, for me at least.

I took my D600 with a fisheye lens on board the USS New Jersey. Not exactly a small combination.
No issues, had to be careful going through the ship, though, some tight spaces to navigate.

First, your camera will be just fine, as will your lens...for most of your visit.
You cannot bring in a camera bag or backpack to Pearl. Everything must be 'visible'. You will need to leave it at the entry. I don't like having to leave anything anywhere.
I strongly suggest bringing a wide angle with you when on the ship. During my visit I had the D810/28-300/16-35.
I used a ThinkTank Lens Case Duo 2.0 to hold either lens. Attached to my belt, and opened when I entered was no problem. I put my 28-300 in the Duo when i entered the 'Park'. Pearl Harbor is a National Memorial run by the National Park Service.
The wide angle was perfect for my visit to the Missouri and Air Museum. The 24-200 will be great for everything else.
Have a great time...one of my favorite places of all time.

I agree. My wife and I toured the USS Missouri and I have visited several other US Navy ships including carriers and subs. Even the big ships have tight spaces, hatches, and stairs/ladders that must be navigated. The subs are even worse.

I am sure this limitation is to prevent someone from bringing a large amount of gear, such as tripods, camera bags full of lenses, etc., and slowing down people moving through the ship. I had a Pentax DSLR with a small zoom and there were no issues. I would want a lens that was more on the wide-angle side since many shots will be inside compartments inside the ship. A small fast zoom like an 18-70mm may be about right.

I toured an older Soviet submarine in San Diego once and at the entrance, they had a replica of the hatches that were used throughout the sub. To tour the sub, one had to be able to bend and step through this hatch replica. If you were unable to do so then you were advised NOT to do the tour the sub as you would have to go through several of these hatches during your tour. You were also advised that you should NOT have any claustrophobic tendencies as there were some very confined and restricted spaces that you had to pass through. They were correct, it was a squeeze in certain places along the tour.

Be sure to visit the Aviation Museum while on your visit to Pearl Harbor which is located in a large hangar adjacent to the USS Missouri.

If it crowded when you are there, the "rules" might be enforced differently than when it is less crowded. I too have been on a cruiser and baattleship and think a wide to normal zoom whould be more suitable to the tight quarters.

Some images of the USS New Jersey, taken with a D600, and the Nikkor 8-15mm Fisheye.
Exterior at 8mm and 15mm.
Interior picture of the conning and firing rooms.

Even allowing for the distortion, interesting images.

The tour included the center turret and barbet, but there was no location to get an image without other participants.

Wow! Thank you so much for sharing these awesome images Ctrclckws.
Worth well over a thousand words each.

Wonderful to have this type of visual narrative to appreciate the actual venue and intriguing ship's interior.
All the best on your journey Ctrclckws!
