I've never been good at shooting indoors without a flash (or with a flash, for that matter!). We were exploring the old Vulture Mine ghost town, and we could go into all of the buildings. I was carrying my Canon 1DX (Yes, the one that Canon couldn't fix!). I put the ISO on auto - which is something I never do - and used AV mode. I liked how they turned out at the time, but then everything looks good on a 3" screen. But even on my 21" screen, I was pleasantly surprised. I did have to "fix" the perspective on some of them, but even with that, my normal develop treatment seemed to take care of most of them (highlights down, contrast and clarity up).

As always, your comments and suggestions for improvement are welcome!

Had to take the shadows up, but I'm really pleased with this. I've never been able to get detail through the window before!

Thank you. It's the first time I've gotten acceptable results! And hand-held to boot!

The buildings date back quite awhile. I think the mining operation closed in 1942 and has now reopened. Like an idiot, I didn't take notation photos of the signs on the doorways to remind me what each building was (I was walking with a very painful knee at the time, as I had fallen earlier in the day). The first was a one-room dwelling for one of the officers. There was a bed over in the corner (lower right from the image). The second was a bedroom in the bordello. The table setting and beautiful crocheted cloth was in the kitchen of one of the cabins. It was a 3-room affair. The through-the-window shots were in different buildings. The first one of those was QUITE dark, but had detail in the shadows, so I was able to pull them up. There's a bunkhouse and several mine buildings (pay master, ore sample room, etc.). The mine produced gold and silver (a LOT of both).

Ghost town? Looks very lived in to me. The shots are excellent. Love to visit there.
