Can anyone estimate the amount? I have about 12K raw images. Will they all fit?

A mere drop in the bucket.
Jack Olson
Depend on which RAW files. But let assume you have the Sony A7R IV and save as uncompressed RAW the file is about 123MB and thus 12,000 of the files would be about 1.5TB.
Could you tell us the size of 1 of your RAW files? or at least what camera they are being made with? 1 TB may be enough.
Check your camera manual. Nearly all will give you the file sizes by format. You can determine from there. My 24MP Sony is giving 25MB files. Pixels to bytes are not 1:1, this just happened to be for this camera and RAW. This file size would by 80,000 files into 2TB. A gig is 1,000 MB, so 2,000,000 is your 2TB drive. Divided by 25MB gets to 80,000 files.
Remember your math class.
The OP asked but doesn't want to answer. But very likely 2TB would hold 12K raw files. Perhaps if the OP camera has 100MP then may be won't fit.

Sure. I’m using the Nikon D610. My goal is to corral all the photos (desktop, etc.) into one place.

Are you archiving them as raws, jpegs, tiffs or a combination? Are you creating finished print crops?
My standard pamoramic 72x24 print crop is 444 megs at 300 dpi. 1 or 2 tb should last you for maybe 3 years depending on how prolific a shooter you are.
I organize my portfolio of select pieces in a Raid enclosure of two 2tb NAS drives. I started with 1tb's 4 years ago. My general archive space is two raided 2tb drives in a separate enclosure.

Well, if he knew the size of his raw files why would he be asking the group ? Its verrrrrry difficult to know the files size. You hafta look for your reading glasses and maybe squint a bit to read the file size on the cameras playback, or PC screen, or worse yet, RTFM :-(

Hey, Nice reply,
First-"His" name is Eileen (That's the OP)
Second-Maybe you should research things before you comment.
Third-Maybe someone was just looking for help to figure things out. The basis of this website. To help fellow
photographers. I don't comment on many subjects but I read and learn in silence. Something you should do!

I wont be heeding your suggestion. I wouldnt change a word if it if I could. It does exactly what you suggest, but with some humor tossed in.
Im acoarst always well aware that not everyone hears humor the same way. But thaz howard goes. Theres always some risk of encountering a sourpuss or two. Theres helpful content in that post. If anyone doesnt like the packaging, I just let that be their loss. The advice is there.

I couldve just said "You can find your file size via your playback monitor, your PC, or just RTFM. Then just divide that by yayadah, and voila !". Some would even shorten it further, to just "RTFM". Thaz kinda blunt but its good advice.
Yes I couldve said only that, but thaz someone elses job. And that someone else usually stretches those 2 short sentences into 3 to 5 long screens of dense pedantic blather. Thaz their way. My way is my way. Theres enough electrons for everyones way.

Or a Nikon D810 which average around 71-72mb. Take the 2tb & divide it by your file size. With the example above, Unless your shooting a Fuji GFX 100mp or Phase-One with a 150mp digital back sensor, I would think it will all fit
.

Twenty six point five million, I'll guess. NO, SERIOUSLY, I'M JOKING! actually I have no idea, but I know it's a lot.
2Tb is a huge amount of storage space. Obviously the only answer depends on the size of your raw files, but if you have any concerns, I'd just buy an extra storage card/drive /cloud space etc, (whatever you use), just to be on the safe side, and digital storage seems to be getting less expensive all the time! So I guess my answer wasn't very helpful, but it's the best I can do! Stay safe and have a great day,
Ray.

Roughly... 2TB / file size = how many files will fit
