Llangollen, Wales

In 2007 the church choir I sing with made a tour of the British Isles, and we visited a number of interesting places in Wales. One of them was the little village of Llangollen on the Dee River. I took a few pictures of this charming village.

HI David, great pics and memories. I've actually visited that town and it's beautiful. Before moving here to sunny California, I lived in Wales for the happiest 10 years of my life. It's strange that most tourists visit London, Scotland and Ireland, but seem to miss Wales although, and in my opinion it's the most beautiful and interesting place to go, I suppose it's a good thing that it hasn't been spoiled yet, the smaller villages haven't changed much for hundreds of years, (except for the obvious, like electricity, plumbing and vehicles. I lived in a town called caerphilly, close to Cardiff, which happens to have a wonderful castle right in the center, (it has a tower that "leans" more than the famous one in Piza) ! It's worth looking up on Google if you're so inclined. Anyway, just my 2 cents (or pennies) worth, hope you have a great day,
Ray.

Hi, Ray, thanks for coming! The choir tour visited all the British Isles (except Northern Ireland) and we had a couple of days in Wales. Very lovely countyside and we sang a delightful concert in Llandudno along with one of the wonderful male choruses. FWIW, I had been to Cardiff in 1980. I was on a coach tour from Ramstein, Germany to England and the Benelux, and from London on a free day I took a train over to Cardiff. My photos of that visit are here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/8712554@N02/sets/72157633050806008/. They're not very good because they were scanned from prints made in 1980, using a cheap scanner. I have posted a Set of those to UHH but they were before I began using Lightroom to "fix" things. The ones on Flickr (link above) have had some PP.

I have today posted some pictures of Betws Y Coed, Wales and Chester, UK. I'm thinking of doing Caernarfon, too. ETA: I did: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-736492-1.html and it links to Part 2.

Hi, David! Beautiful set of images. I always appreciate your eye for great compositions and interesting details captured in so many images. Thank you for sharing with us. Are you still involved in preforming with the choir?

George, nice to see you! Thanks so much for the nice compliment! You're welcome--I enjoy sharing. Yes, I'm still singing with the choir--have been with that church for 42 years now (half my life).

Check out my Sets of Caernarfon: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-736492-1.html

What a nice looking town - although that river looks like it could be pretty destructive if it floods!

Thanks for the great memories. We were there maybe 10 years ago. Supposedly Llangollen is the Home of Thomas the tank Engine.

You did well to catch the river without a kayaker on it.

I'm betting there's very few people here who realize how Llangollen is pronounced! (In fact most any place name in Wales),
Ray.
