Ven's nana, very kind of you. I've had several opportunities to photograph this species, but I think I caught a nice bit of action along with the orange wash on the crown. The yellow mustard flowers were a nice addition, especially with the bright, clear background. No significant distractions from the bird itself. Thanks and have an enjoyable week. jak

Great bird shot. Looks rather "Audubonian."

Thanks, Ed. That's high praise. About 50 yeas ago my uncle gave me a set of Audubon prints (reprints, not originals) which I still treasure. I periodically take them out and page through them just to enjoy them. I've had 2 or three photos over the years that struck me in the same way, but it's nice that it struck you that way. I've toyed with the thought of adding a white vignette around this picture to white out the branches and flowers that go off the page somewhat. I think that would make it even more Audubonian. Thanks again and have a great day. jak

I have a copy of Birds of America printed in 1947 and it one of my treasured possessions. Photographs that match the style are, imho, pretty rare. Your image really struck me.

Migration season is in full swing. Yesterday’s survey of bird life in Fairview Park in Costa Mesa found several migrants of note, but I was lucky to catch a resident warbler blending in with the many mustard plants. This Orange-crowned Warbler even shows it’s orange crown, which is usually hard to see. I continue to use a Nikon D500 and Nikkor 200-500mm telezoom set for spot focus and BBF. Hope you like the picture.

How did you get the background? It looks almost like an Audubon illustration on white paper except that the out of focus plant gives it away a s a genuine photograph

Photogeneralist, I didn’t really do anything. The mustard plant was on a hillside so I was shooting slightly upward with the eastern morning sky in the background. The sun had risen in the East, so the sky was very bright. There were no plants visible behind the one shown. I had increased exposure to capture the bird, leaving a white background.
