I just did an update to PS version 23.3. It caused problems, specifically, if I did a CTRL J to duplicate a layer it would turn the entire image White. I called Adobe Tech support and we isolated the issue. It seems that this problem is existing with some computers. He told me until they come up with an update to fix do this.

Go to Edit> Preferences> Go to Edit > Prefernces>and uncheck: the box" Multitrhread Compositing, Then go to Advanced Settings and uncheck "GPU" Compositing. Then close down Photoshop and re-open. Everything is working fine now on my Computer.

Cntrl J is working with both the Multithread Compositing and GPU compositing checked on my Win10 machine. Turning them off makes the machine sluggish. Maybe you should start thinking about a machine upgrade in the near future. I was using an 11 yr old system that was working fine, but was running Win7 so I could not take advantage of the newest versions of Lightroom, Photoshop and some other applications. So I bit the bullet and bought a new machine. The old system is still working, but the new one is considerably faster.

I seriously don't think it's my computer although it could be. It does seem strange that Photoshop was working fine with Version 22.2. My computer isn't that old. Here are the specs. I am also using a NVIDIA Ge Force GT 730 graphics card.

I sometimes find with Adobe PS updates, there are many glitches. I then go back to the previous version, wait a few months and then update. I have done this currently with both Bridge and Photoshop.

Maybe your problem is with Win-doze?

Just joking... but....

Granted, Adobe and other software vendors can sometimes have glitches in their updates but, how often do you check for viruses and malware? Windows is famous for them.

Just checked, I'm all up to date on my Windows Updates. So I guess I wait until the next update comes out to see if the problem has been fixed.

I'm using Windows Defender, nothing is showing up for viruses or malware.

Thanks for the tip. After the update on a PC, when my brother would load a jpg into PS and then create a HSL adjustment layer, the displayed image turned to B&W. When using HSL thru Image>Adjustments, the HSL just didn't work. He even reinstalled PS but that didn't fix the problem. I ran across this tip and sent him the link and he tried it. It worked, it resolved the problem.

What was interesting was that after he fixed it, he went back to see which setting created the problem on his computer. He found that he could turn both settings ON and PS still worked correctly. It appears, for him, that the problem that those settings created was transitory. Having those settings ON during the update may have been preventing a proper setup, but once the setup was correct, everything worked fine.

I think the Adobe Suite goes through growing pains differently on Windows and MacOS. Knock on wood, I haven't had any issues for the last couple of years on two Macs. I waited ten months after Apple introduced the M1 machines to buy one, just so Adobe could rewrite and debug their software. By the time I bought, it was running smoothly.

I do run a clean system, on both my older Intel iMac and the M1 MacBook Air. I like to clone my whole drive to an external, then reformat the internal or replace it and move my data back to a completely fresh system-and-apps installation, about once every three years. That/ gets rid of a lot of junk left behind by old software and old operating systems. While I'm inside the machine, I vacuum it thoroughly and then make sure all connections are tight.
