My Nikon D7500 Puzzle

I have searched the manual and internet for a solution to this puzzle without success.

Occasionally my camera displays two 2 digit numbers (say 14 18) in the viewfinder and refuses to take a picture until I either point it at the ground and take a picture or turn the camera off and then back on.

Anyone else run into this?

I can't wait to hear what that's all about. Never heard of that one before.

Just some thoughts ....

Is your read/write LED lit ? I suspect shooting the ground is a red herring. If your card is not very fast the buffer will fill up and you cant do anything until it clears. Also if your using the automatic instant review (playback) disable it.

BTW if youre about to switch off the camera BE SURE to check whether the read/write LED is lit. If its lit you MUST WAIT until it has gone dark before you switch off the camera.

Last thought, is your card nearly full ? Even if its not nearly full, has it been reformatted many times ? Cards get fragmented and formatting does NOT defragment them. It can even make things worse.
.

Minimum for cameras such as D7500. This card has 6GB free space remaining and it slows down its 12MP camera so badly that its become nearly unuseable.

Try posting a picture of the screen if you have, or can borrow, another camera.

Just saying 2 numbers isn't much to go on.

No borrowing needed. Phone works great.

I'm hoping we'll see a picture showing what the OP is seeing. I'd loan him my phone, if I had one.

What I had in mind was a picture of the screen showing the 2 numbers the OP referred to. Glad to know your phone works.

Are you using continuous shutter release? It may have something to do with the buffer not being able to empty quick enough. Alternatively, I believe some cameras will notify the user when there is limited space available in the SD card.

Check whether stacking is turned on - if it is then that's the issue - turn off.

Thanks for your replies. The sd card is fairly new, but I'll try another one anyway. The Nikon representative had never heard of this particular problem, but is sending me an email with his number so I can call back if (when) the problem occurs again.

My first thought when waking up this morning was "hard reset." Good grief, am I so obsessed with my camera that it fills my sleep? Anyway I did the reset, we'll see if that takes care of the problem.

Thanks again everyone.

DRam11...if you don't mind me asking, but you've left us hanging...did you solve the D7500 puzzle?

Sorry, I haven't revisited this until now. Solved - the camera is asking me to select an image size. I haven't figured out how to do that yet. Searching the manual has not provided the answer, so I just point the camera at the ground,
fire the shutter and continue.

Page 9 of the D7500 User Manual shows the viewfinder display. I don't see how / where the numbers you've described could display. You can still probably get a better solution if you took a pic (probably via phone) of these displayed message for all to see and better consider the cause and solution. Be sure to store the JPEG attachment so we can clearly see the details.
