My Most Frequent Raptor lately...
We do get a large number of backyard birds at our house it seems, so of course that attracts the Raptors too... this adult Sharpie is coming to visit 2-3 times a day (that I see!) and has been successful several times. Two episodes I have observed him being successful & others I find a pile of feathers! I know it is sad but they have their own place & job to do...I do get quite a thrill out of catching them with the camera. It always makes my day to see them!
Just yesterday I was going out to fill the feeders & add some new suet blocks & he zoomed in & landed on my cherry tree about 6 feet in front of me. I froze & so did he for about 2 seconds then launched & flew right by me. Not alarmed nor at full speed just leaving kinda disgusted since I spoiled his breakfast! All I could think of was "wish I had my camera!"
These were taken by my wife through the kitchen window one morning recently...cropped.
I know, now the consensus will be that this is a Cooper's Hawk not the Sharpie! I am always 50-50 on my ID's with these two! LOL...That's OK I think I will be perfect in about 30 more years!

It just "feels" like a Sharpie. Sometimes you just know.

Nope. It's a Cooper's Hawk. The rounded tail feathers in your first shot seals the deal. Nice pics!

Rounded tail feathers are not definitive in them selves

Thanks for posting on my pics Mr. B. I am still convinced it is a Sharpie, I get BOTH kinds at my local area & am getting better at ID's now. Check out the skinny naked legs on the one pic...take care, Walt
Thanks hettmoe! That means a lot to my wife & I...Walt

Well done images!
Thanks photophile!! Deb is very happy you liked them!
Thanks KP! Deb was very happy they were good enough to share...your comment made her smile. She is slowly becoming hooked on getting more Bird pics! I got her a new Canon 55-250 Zoom lens with newer optics & the STM faster focusing & IS which is helping her get more keepers. Her first shots were of this Sharpie!
